The Kargil conflict was a milestone event in Indian military history and one that represents a telling prototype of India’s most likely type of future combat challenge.
Mig-21, Mig-23BN, Mig-27, Jaguar, Mig-29 & M-2000. Mig-29 was used more for CAP and escort M-2000 strike package. It was the only fighter at that time in entire subcontinent with BVR capacity(R-27 SARH missile, along with 530D of M-2000) and kept PAF F-16s at bay. M-2000 was the biggest aerial hero of Kargil War as it pounded PA positions using LGBs. Mig-21 also played vital role in ground attacks, recon and CAP. Rest all were used as ground-attack jets.
