LCA Tejas Mk1 & Mk1A - News and discussions

Weapon trial is probably HAL's workshare, indeed the integration part is. HAL in turn is likely dependent on DRDO where the delay can happen due to many internal agency at work (software, DAS, QA etc)

^^All of that considering Mk1a is majority HAL own work so maybe that is why IAF is not happy ie they are ignoring any delay coming thru DRDO side (Astra integration part). Initially the firing trial it seems ASRAAM & gun fire as basic capability and even that was probably pending due to no engines. Bombs JDAM LGB etc are not that heavy issue. Astra can be done later since integration is DRDO dependent. But the primary weapons also had delays for a proof firing.

Workshare allocation is probably defined by the SOP doc for Mk1A vetted by CEMILAC and signed in 2019. I hope there's no goal post shifting happening at the last minute.

Imo, software testing could've been done on the LCA Iron Bird test rig. And then rolled out progressively to operational Mk1a units (considering Tejas mk1 has already demonstrated CCM, BVR and LGB firing, including in live exercises)

Software tweaks are an ongoing process as the IAF adds more weapons to its inventory.

Max Defense is a reliable source for Philippine military procurement. He is a former Filipino Naval Officer.
Bro first let IAF get 2 squadrons of Mk1A please 🥲. Any potential exports can even begin to be considered only after 3-4 years at this point. Until then we can potentially offer ballistic missiles like Prithvi along with more Brahmos. More specifically Phillipines needs advanced targeting AND ISR stuff to truly make Brahmos lethal.

Actually, last year this source had said Philippines was interested in the Naval version of Tejas with local assembly (If I remember correctly). Tejas' first export destination is almost a done deal. It will be Brazil, in a swap deal with C-390. Negotiations have been on for a year now. If they are completed it is likely the deal with signed when the Brazilian President visits India in Feb 2026. My thread:-

Philippines is looking to buy underwater drones from India for ISR, specifically from DRDO. See my post in Indian defense exports thread.

Astra mk2 integration is in the M4 , that is 12 months away from T-0 and for 3 months duration. So there are some time available. Meteor integration is in the M5.

I wish they had released specific work scope instead of this parallel work together, good for timeline but hard to separate by projects. At least the shared avionics would mean less time taken. Last time that mk1a and Mk2 ISRT SDR etc work, I initially thought mk1a was also getting that. Turned out only mk2.

Also delays, well if one of the supervising officer is not available in his chair for few weeks due to holiday/some rep work related trip or something like that, entire project timeline also get delays. Only for high level senior officials in rank F G or so, buy such delays happen and esp before holiday season. Govt work is like that, one signature missing can be a week or more delay, and we got 4-5 high rankers sig needed on each file, work order etc.

Even before that, Finance ministry some time ago sent internal memo to whoever the final authorisation officer is he/she needs to attest all pages of the tender doc. That means if a tender doc is even 100 pages or more (plenty of those are) it still needs self attested in each page else Fin ministry is sending that file back. Literally 40% of files got sent back across all the Govt offices because one or more pages were missed. So it is no wonder the sort of delays happening over the past 2 years even disregarding some aspects beyond anyone's control.
