The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, or Minusma, is the most dangerous UN posting currently with 204 peacekeepers killed since 2013 out of a force of 15,000. NORTAD - Norwegian Tactical Airlift Detachment - is Norway's contribution to the Minusma mission in Bamiko.

This is on a military base, Camp Rena, but it's not unusual to see armor refueling at petrol stations around town during exercises when away from base.

Norwegian Task Unit 5 in Anbar, Iraq. The unit has on occasion come under rocket attack from local belligerents, mostly those backed or supported by Iran. The most recent incident was in early December, 2019 when the Norwegian Camp Midgard was hit by 7 rockets, 6 of which detonated. No injuries or serious damage was sustained.

How many of the K9 and K10s are you guys buying?

24 K9s are on order under the terms of the current contract with an option for an additional 24. They were ordered in December of 2017, so a two year difference between contract and delivery is pretty impressive. Only 6 K10 have been ordered to date. I don't believe any options exist for additional units as per the conditions of the current contract, but that could easily be changed.

The K9 will replace the 14 active and 42 reserve M109s, which date back to 1970 after being acquired from West Germany. Originally 126 were purchased, 70 have since been scrapped.

Are they locally built or imported from Korea?

Imported. But the K9 is the second major defence program sourced from South Korea. The Royal Norwegian Navy's fleet replenishment ship KNM Maud is also a product of South Korea with the primary contractor being Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. KNM Maud is currently barred from sailing due to design reviews deeming the ship presents sufficient danger to its crew. She's currently undergoing additional refitting and is expected back in service in the second half of next year... hopefully.

Quite similar to our case. We ordered 100 units of K9 and and unknown number of K10s in April 2017. First 10 was brought from Korea and assembled to be delivered in 11 months, then the first batch(25 K9s) of locally manufactured units were delivered in May 2018. So with in a year we had 35 units. Don't know how many we have right now, but the speed of delivery has been very impressive.

The current SNMG1 flotilla consists of Nansen class frigate KNM Thor Heyerdahl, Arleigh Burke class destroyer USS Gridley of the USN and Karel Doorman class frigates Van Speijk of the RNLN, NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida of the Portuguese Navy and Leopold I of the Belgian Marine Component.
