Infact twitter became famous because of Arab spring iirc, like local arabs used it to organize and stuff, media people used to (still do) scour it for live news etc.I agree a hundred percent. Everyone has their own algo and they can change it as per their own decisions.
Twitter Revolution: How the Arab Spring Was Helped By Social Media
As a result of the many technological advancements and innovations that have revolutionized how individuals communicate, an abundance of information has become available to everyone. Depending on where the information is found, however, it’s…
Even pakees are banning twitter and other social media to prevent imran fans from chimping out until Op Sindoor began and are still banning some accounts I think. In last few years they have imported chinese tech to monitor, throttle internet kind of like pakee great firewall (in peedf they were discussing pak telecom dept was importing etc), we are pretty relaxed and laissez-faire in comparision to both adversarial neighbors where they are guarding their info space and also launching dis info ops through troll armies, paid influencers etc. while whatever little was done post pahalgam seems to be not internalized and appreciated.
Given India's size we should have a local alternative to twitter first because of its importance in official communication from govt PoV and also its role as townhall of sorts. Replacing Youtube will be difficult due to scale and diversity of content available and associated infra google put up to host that much content.
Telegram like app is also required from India to replace whatsapp, hike used to have a chance but sadly got shutdown in 2021, without tilting the table by govt it will be difficult to survive US social media tech companies as shown by the results of EU/China social media tech landscape.
Not happening, unless pakees agree for a new deal, old iwt is done after pakees went to court or some shit which is against the way agreement requires dispute settlement. Pahalgam gave the chance for Govt of India to do what it has already made up its mind about.
