Indonesia and Singapore are facing a diplomatic row as toxic haze from forest fires, natural gas supplies and financial market tensions collide. In this video, Firstpost examines how fires across Indonesia’s Sumatra and Kalimantan islands have triggered cross-border pollution concerns, prompting Singapore to investigate companies suspected of links to the blazes. The video looks at Indonesia’s decision to cut pipeline gas exports to Singapore, the impact on the city-state’s energy security, and accusations that Singapore’s state investment funds influenced concerns over Indonesia’s stock market. Both funds have rejected the claims, and no evidence has established Singapore’s involvement.

Indonesia’s stock market is facing its sharpest crisis in decades after falling more than 11% in a single day, forcing trading to be halted. The trigger is growing concern over an MSCI review that could downgrade Indonesia from “emerging market” status to “stand-alone”, potentially removing it from major global indices. Investors are also worried about transparency, government spending and institutional credibility under President Prabowo Subianto. High oil prices, rising US interest rates and pressure on the rupiah have added to the strain. MSCI is expected to make its final decision next year.

Indonesia is facing a major surveillance scandal after authorities uncovered an alleged spying operation within the country’s own police force. The alleged targets reportedly included journalists, politicians, business leaders, cabinet ministers and even President Prabowo Subianto. Three senior police officers have been arrested, including former national police chief and presidential chief of staff Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who has since been removed from his post. In this video, Firstpost examines how a system meant for lawful phone interception was allegedly misused, the political connections surrounding the investigation and the questions it raises about Prabowo’s government.
