Russian Navy : Discussions and Updates

[ICBM Bulava-M] An industry rumor indicates that an ICBM Bulava-M is in R&D to replace the "old ICBM Bulava". The cause would be the aging of the powder. For the record, this missile is launched by the Izd.955/955A submarines.

Bulava-M ICBM may replace the missile in service aboard the Borei class submarines

A co-operation of rocket and space industry enterprises led by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering has the developments needed to design the Bulava-M missile, a source said
MOSCOW, 22 July. /TASS/. The latest Bulava-M intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) may replace the Bulava ICBM currently in service on the Borey/Borey-A family of Project 955/955A nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine cruisers. A source in the rocket and space industry told TASS.
"The co-operation of the industry enterprises headed by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering has the developments necessary to design the Bulava-M missile, which is to replace the Bulava ICBM," he said.
The agency's interlocutor recalled that the Russian Navy currently has six Borey-class LCSNs in its combat service. The first of them - "Yuri Dolgoruky" - was handed over to the Navy 10 years ago. According to the open press, four more nuclear-powered ships are at various stages of construction, and two are being prepared for laying down.
The main strike weapon of submarines of this project is the Bulava solid-propellant ICBMs. According to him, one of the peculiarities of solid-propellant ICBMs is the ageing of powders. Therefore, Bulava will need a replacement in the form of Bulava-M, which will be created using, among other things, new design solutions. This will also make it possible to use the existing and under-construction 955/955A ARPSSNs for basing them without seriously modifying them.
TASS has no official confirmation of this information.
Earlier, some media reported that the Russian Defence Ministry was finalising the tactical and technical requirements for the new sea-based ICBM. /deepl

Borei-A SSBN & Yasen M SSN will be replacing most of the old Soviet sub in coming years & all these modern sub are on par with their western counterparts.
Borei-A is even quieter than their improved Virginia class attack SSN

Trust me bro.

Russia’s Borei strategic missile submarines are doubly quiet than the US Virginia class, Director of the Kurchatov Institute R&D Center Alexander Blagov said at a roundtable discussion on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the country’s nuclear submarine fleet.

"Enormous work was done to lower the noise level of submarines and reduce physical fields. The noise level of the Borei strategic underwater missile-carrying cruiser is five times lower than that of the third-generation Shchuka-B multipurpose nuclear-powered sub and two times lower than the US Virginia class," Blagov said.
This was the old Borei based on unfinished Hull section of Akula & Oscar.....new Borei-A are even more quiet

submarines in the russian navy, by fleet. last update: 18 september

The first figure indicates the number of submarines on line (i.e. excluding submarines undergoing armament, long-term maintenance, refit, on standby, etc.), the second the total number of submarines in park in the various fleets.

The Pacific Fleet's future Borey-A/Borei II class SNLE 955A "Imperator Alexandr III" (K-554) has reportedly launched a single Bulava/SS-N-32 SLBM as part of the final part of the submarine's sea trials before it enters service later this year.

The launch took place somewhere in the White Sea and the target was the Kura missile test range in Kamchatka.
