The Insas itself costs a 1000$ if I'm not wrong so it's a huge upgrade for our guys. The selector for the ak203 is also the older style one compared to newer fire selectors in ak where they have a created a placement for thumb its crude so not much of a upgrade if you have it or not.Completely agree on the gun laws part.
So the infantry guys won’t even get AKs with a collapsible buttstock... That’s really a pity. If that’s the gun the guys are getting then $1150 a pop is a robbery.
Weren’t SFs supposed to procure FN SCARs and maximis and NVGs and stuff...
Edit: the fn scar order is for the afsod. Basically our combined spec op forces strength is around 3000 so yeah the afsod is getting that. Don't know where the tavors and m4 go though...The Insas itself costs a 1000$ if I'm not wrong so it's a huge upgrade for our guys. The SF guys are getting the fn scar deal but I doubt if it's for the Para sf. The order seems to be too small for equipping all the sf units. Seems like this equipment is for the upcoming afsod. I don't think switching from tavor to scar would translate into good for para SF's. A better upgrade would have been the x95 and tavor 7 for the para sf but the f90 is also a good candidate for a replacement of the tavors. The para sf guys would have more than 3000 which is about the size of the order. But then afsod doesn't get the required share. Either that or the afsod is basically para sf which would be a disappointment...
IMO M4s stay with SF guys. Tavor s will go to Ghataks and airborne guys. I think so.. Combined SF strength should be around 7-8k... 2500-3500 para 1700 garud and 2000 MARCOSEdit: the fn scar order is for the afsod. The order is supposedly for 1050 SCAR-H and 1400 SCAR-L or HK-416. The article from FAB says it's for Para SF and is being procured by IA. If this is meant for AFSOD which basically constitutes operators from Para SF, Garuds and Marcos...they would've mentioned something on those lines. The total strength of Para SF is around 10k while the order is for 3k rifles which means a posssibility they'd be give to the elite units like 9 or 4 Para with the option of SOPMODEdit: the fn scar order is for the afsod. There's no way to confirm it. Unlike IA's procurements for conventional units which are usually revealed by IA or MoD, SF procurements are usually not made public. Secondly, AFSOD is meant to be highly secretive ensuring none of the operators identities are revealed nor their weapons/gear. If they're strict on that aspect, it's hard to know of their procurements. Even if someone like @unknowncommando or shatrujeet gets hold of some pictures, they might pass it off as Para SF since we're know to have multiple camos/rifles/gear of operators within the same unitThen it is sure that the order is for the afsod.
Is AFSOD on deputation basis or are there permanent members? There's no way to confirm it. It looks like the first unit has been initiated headed by Major General Ashok Dhingra with their first exercise in Kutch and the second in Andaman & Nicobar #DANX19. They were still seen using AK's or Tavors in these exercises which were carried over from their home units and used the same gear/camo as well. Standardized gear and weapons procurement are yet to startIs AFSOD on deputation basis or are there permanent members?

Agree, AFSOD's head should report directly to someone like CDS and should be strictly structured on the basis of USSOCOM. Now that Indo-US relations are at it's height, we should request US to let AFSOD train along side some of their elite SEAL Teams. The best weapons and gear should be available ensuring SOPMODs to all operators. Most recently, Russian and Turkish SFs' upgraded their gear on par with elite western SFs' and we shouldn't be having budgetary constraints if it's only for 3k operatorsView attachment 17780
The size of afsod is predicted to be around 3000. The order number of the total small arms is 3200 gun. So it fits. So maybe we will take guys from all the three SF's and train them here. I do think that the operating style of afsod might not be that different from para sf because it will be led by para sf. If afsod is army centric we are screwed..
SEAL teams are overrated IMO. They should be trained along lines if Green Berets... And with Green Berets (participate in Vajra Prahar). Steal as much as they can from them. Give them training in intelligence, counter intelligence, languages, etc... Jawans and officers both. That is the most important part IMO.. Giving the Jawans, NCOs and JCOs good enough training They have the capacity to be so much more than just people that run around killing terrorists... This is possible because there are only a few operators... Agree with the rest.Agree, AFSOD's head should report directly to someone like CDS and should be strictly structured on the basis of USSOCOM. Atmanirbhar is a meme. Indigenisation could have been done without all this drama. Honestly it's cringeworthy.NSG & ITBP allow foreign bidders for sniper rifles, months before embargo kicks in
The 7.62x51mm sniper rifle is one of 101 items on the negative import list issued in August. Its import embargo kicks in December.theprint.in
What's the point of Atmanirbhar then?
Another drama like MII......Get rid of OFBs... and privatise them... all will be fine...A

Could be a misnomer... So far I haven't heard of specific units in SF getting new stuff when others don't. Should be better. Caracal can even start to offer their entire arms lineup. They have a good line up of quality weapons...
F90 is ugliness in its purest form or you can say that its simple and uglyWell I guess it's a personal choice...I like the Tavor over F90 and Aug when it comes to bulpups

That isnt the point... we dont need a 5.56mm carbine... Well whatever..Should be better. Caracal can even start to offer their entire arms lineup. They have a good line up of quality weapons...
The haenel gun that won the German contest was actually a license produced variant of the car 816..

What is the barrel length being offered anyway?
