Internal designations for upgrades.

The MKI that was introduced in 2007 was Su-30MKI Mk3 as well. Mk1 was A2A only, then came Mk2 with A2G. Mk3 came with new avionics, including a finished EW suite, radar processor upgrades and so on. We could already be on Mk5 or Mk6 right now.

T-90 should have followed a similar pattern. I guess the version with the new driver's night sights and new missile was Mk-II. Or it could be for this one, delivered from 2009.

The auto-tracker for FCS is still Russian! Hopefully we indigenize it too during the next upgrade or MKIV variant.

All in all good upgrades post Ukraine war as more and more people are doubting the plausibility/relevance of Tanks in modern warfare👍

Tests of the Russian T-90S tank in India in 1999. Archival footage of the Russian Uralvagonzavod. Tests on May 17, 1999 in India of the Russian T-90S tank. It was a difficult time for the plant at that time; one might say that the contract with India saved the plant. In 1997, India showed interest in the T-90S tank. But India needed a tank with a 1000-horsepower engine and a thermal imaging sight. At that time, the Russian tank did not have the required characteristics, but the adaptation of the tank and the revival of production took place in the shortest possible time at Uralvagonzavod. Tests were carried out in the Thar desert, each tank traveled more than 2000 kilometers. The V-92S2 "ChTZ-Uraltrak" diesel engine demonstrated phenomenal endurance. The tests were completed successfully. In the early 2000s, 124 tanks went to India in finished form and another 186 in the form of vehicle kits. And in 2004, the first Indian-assembled T-90S tank was released.

There were reports of the IA getting around 300 T-90MS tanks directly from Russia some years back. Has that plan been dropped in favour of locally upgrading the T-90S?

MS report was BS. We're always going with our own upgraded version(MK3??!!) just like we're going with nearly 100% indigenous upgrade package for MKI over Russian SM2 offer. And in my opinion, it's the right thing to do.

This was from back in 2019. It doesn't make sense to buy them anymore, of course. Now that we have indigenized the engine and substituted the gun barrel and armour panels with our own.

Hope the definitive Indian T-90 upgrade is on par/better than the T-90M Provy-3.
