Ukraine - Russia Conflict

weren't you the one educating us about how crossing a country's national sovereignty is wrong? Thus Putin is wrong.

Bush and Blair are war criminals in the same sense.
A sovereign democracy yes.

It was criminal not to remove Saddam in 1991 and Iraqis seemed to think their ex-leader was the criminal.

Sure lets hurt normal working folk who in no way decided Russia's course of action. Lets hurt small businesses - people trying to make a living in trying times.

Since they dont speak english, their pain isnt newsworthy, their sad stories dont matter.

Putin is a dick to cause misery to others to satiate his ego, but moronic pranksters hurting everyday folk is kosher.

Sigh </Rant>
Turns out that the owner is not so innocent.

Why else wouldn't they use their air force?
One theory is ready rate. They don't have the parts, money and people to keep their air force airworthy for combat operations.

Another theory is capability. They are not capable of CAS against a real army due to inferior tech, training and leadership. They are having trouble taking out their own old soviet era tech/IADS. They can't use the EW capability because they will blind their own forces that are using inferior communication systems. They severely lack PGW's and depend on dumb bombs and rockets.

Summer is going to be ugly for Russia as Ukraine troops being trained in Germany with US/NATO heavy weapons start getting deployed with their weapons. US/NATO self propelled arty, HiMARS/MLRS, switchblades and other numerous heavy offensive weapons will be the beginning of the end for Russian forces in Ukraine. Only a handful of M777 howitzers have been sent to the front and those handfuls have made a difference just imagine when they deploy the other.

Only the Russian air force can halt the coming Ukraine tsunami but only if they are willing to lose a ton of fighters and attack aircraft which I don't think they are willing.

So what's Russia going to do about this?

Exclusive: U.S. aims to arm Ukraine with advanced anti-ship missiles to fight Russian blockade

Russian Black sea "fleet" will soon go to Davey Jones locker. Arrrrrr.

Sure, that's part of what I said, they would want to hold back.

The main point of an air force is interdiction when it comes to supporting ground units, not CAS.

CAS can come in through helicopters. The Russians have a lot of firepower on the ground anyway. As long as logistics chains are hit, CAS won't matter.

This will take many months though. Given time, a long war will suit Ukraine more, as long as the Russians do not mobilise. The question is if it's enough. The Russians will have to change their tactics, or even cease their offensive, that's the only way to know.

Depending on how the jets are operated, they almost never have to come under fire from Ukraine's existing air defence capabilities.

Russian AF isn't even doing that.
CAS can come in through helicopters.

Easy targets for Manpads have you not been paying attention? Russian chappaz are being used as rocket artillery and hoping it hits something militarily. It's safe to say Russia doesn't have CAS capability. We've seen plenty videos Russians being killed by Ukrainian squads.

Russian CAS means the aircraft actually getting really close like small arms close which it has to since Russian AF is heavily depended on dumb bombs and rockets while US CAS means aircraft thousands of feet high dropping GBU's and JDAMS close to friendlies.

Russian military is supposed to be an "advanced military" and not like Iraqi, Syrian or any other third world military. This is pathetic. Thousands of combat aircraft and none can help their ground forces.
The Russians have a lot of firepower on the ground anyway.

Which keep getting blown up. What good did that firepower do in Kyiv or Kharkiv? What good is that firepower doing in Donbas where they are making such insignificant gains at the cost of a lot of soldiers and equipment? Ukraine military is about to get more capable while Russia isn't. We've seen all that Russia can do conventionally in Donbas. They may likely be able to encircle Severodonetsk but that city will become another Mariopul but worse since Russian forces on the western side of Severodonetsk will have to fend of attacks from their west and east. The encirclement won't hold.
As long as logistics chains are hit, CAS won't matter.

Tell that to the Russians that keep getting attacked by Ukranian squad size elements taking out their armored vehicles and tanks.

Actually next month is when a lot of these heavy offensive weapons will be deployed.

Well Russian air force have two choices get shot down by BUK and S300 or manpads. Here's an idea... how about Russia launches a huge SEAD/DEAD operation taking out these S300s?

Nope, interdiction is to destroy your enemy's C4ISR assets early on and hence remove their ability to wage war effectively.

Not surprising thats the reason why non-western countries dont believe the west. There is a good reason why countries see west as racist neo-imperialist still having colonial mind set.
So why are they so numerous to try to come (and to come) in the west ? ......
