LONDON, Aug 21 (Reuters) - More than 1,900 workers at Britain's largest container port will begin an eight-day strike on Sunday, in a new episode in a series of industrial action that has rocked Britain since the start of the summer.
Employees at the port of Felixstowe, located in the east of England, are demanding wage increases to cope with the rising cost of living.
"This strike will cause serious disruption and send shockwaves through the UK supply chain, but this dispute is purely a result of the company's attitude," says Bobby Morton, a representative of the Unite union.
"(The company) could have made a fair offer to our members, but chose not to," he said.
The port operator, Hutchison Ports, said Friday that its proposal to increase wages by 7 percent and pay a one-time bonus of 500 pounds (589 euros) was fair.
The operator had said the port's workers' union - which represents about 500 employees in supervisory, engineering and administrative positions - had accepted the offer.
Unite, which mainly represents dockworkers, said the offer was well below the current inflation rate.
"The port regrets the impact this action will have on UK supply chains," a Hutchison Ports spokesman said.
The operator said a contingency plan would be put in place and that it would work to minimize disruption during the strike, which will last until Aug. 29.
A jump in inflation - which reached 10.1 per cent year-on-year in July - and uneven wage increases have exacerbated union tensions in Britain in sectors such as the postal service, health care, schools, airports and the justice system. (Reported by Michael Holden; French version by Camille Raynaud)

If the TOW missiles were as good as the Javelins, why didn't you supply them with it from the beginning of the war instead of now, 6 months later.
Midwit here thinks the world is unaware that the US has dipped so deeply into it's own war reserves , depleting stocks to the extent that the Congress has sounded the alarm, more so since the rate of replacement of losses incurred thru such supplies as well as regular replenishments which have nothing to do with the war supply effort is projected to take anywhere between 3-5 yrs to accomplish.
But in many ways midwit is still tolerable as compared to the dimwit Paddy, who's actually portraying the TOWs as equivalent to the Javelins. That he's not claiming it as better is due to the whacking we regularly subject him to out here.
Which brings me to the over arching topic of the Paddification of the Western world. With Irish Joe at the helm & the massive propaganda bombardment in the first month of the war where Ukraine was expected to fold up in a week, failing which it was projected that the Russian forces had weakened to the extent that Ukraine with massive supplies & ISR support from the west, would end up defeating the Russian Army much like in Afghanistan , the US administration actually believed it's own propaganda & emptied it's stocks.
Instead of supplying the Ukrainians with TOWs initially & then graduating to Javelins, in true Paddy fashion they did things in reverse.
That's how infectious Paddification is. It should be treated in the same way as the Chinese virus was detected , diagnosed & defeated . Alas! It will be so but once Paddification has achieved it's objectives of hollowing out the Western powers & monopoly over it forever.
We in the 3rd world certainly aren't complaining & wish our erstwhile brethren from the 3rd world the Paddies the best & hope they certainly accomplish their task.

There are many people it could have been. Russia has no shortage of enemies in Europe and beyond.
However, one possibility people are overlooking is the Russian mafia. Sanctions have no doubt f'ed up their money laundering operations and business besides, and they are just the sort of people to go after family members.
That said, both her and her father are fascist pieces of shit who have caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands with their f'ed up ideology. Good riddance, let it be a lesson to the next Russian lunatic who thinks it's a good idea to suggest 18th century colonial conquest as a way forward.
