Investment agreement between the National Defense Administration and the Indian group Tata
Friday, September 27, 2024 at 1:21 p.m.Rabat – In execution of the Very High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, aimed at modernizing and strengthening the operational capabilities of the FAR and thus promoting national autonomy and sovereignty, particularly in defense mobility equipment, the National Defense Administration and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), a subsidiary of the international conglomerate Tata Group, have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at the local production of the WhAP 8×8 land combat vehicle, at the factory named TATA Advanced Systems Maroc (TASM).
According to a statement from the National Defense Administration, this project also strengthens the historical ties between Morocco and India, two emerging economies whose strategic cooperation in the defense sector is growing.
The investment agreement, which provides for the financial, tax and customs incentives system, was signed by the Ministers representing the Departments of National Defense, Interior, Finance, Industry and Investment, in the presence of representatives of the General Staff of the FAR and AMDIE, the same source said.
The signing of this investment agreement comes in response to local demand and export to foreign markets, the press release underlines, adding that this echoes the ambition of Morocco and TASL to jointly develop South-South cooperation links and a regional hub for the production of defense mobility equipment.
This project places Morocco at the centre of attention as a hub for defence development and opens up promising prospects for investors interested in the defence and high-tech sectors.
The partnership between ADN and TASM is part of a broader dynamic of development of the defense industry in Morocco, with the objective of gradually building strategic autonomy, notes the press release, specifying that the plant will benefit from local sources of supply, supporting the industrial ecosystem of the Kingdom and creating new employment opportunities.
TATA Advanced Systems Limited, already recognized for its global expertise in the manufacturing of defense systems, becomes one of the first international players to invest in Morocco in this sector. This project not only contributes to meeting local needs, but also aims to make Morocco an emerging regional player in the defense industry, underlines the same source.
The said project will be carried out within a maximum period of thirty-six (36) months with a local integration rate of 35% at start-up, eventually increasing to 50%, and will result in the creation of 90 direct jobs and 250 indirect jobs.
Investors can expect promising prospects, driven by the growing demand for defence vehicles and TASL's involvement in an integrated production model. This strategy benefits from the advantages of efficient local sourcing and the availability of a skilled workforce, the press release concludes.
