MoD inks Rs 2,000 crore contract with BEL for Air Defence Fire Control Radars for Indian Army

Rs 2,000 crore, under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category. The contract was inked and exchanged by senior officials of MoD and BEL in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on July 25, 2025.
With minimum 70% indigenous content, these Fire Control Radars will be able to detect all forms of air-borne threats, including fighter aircraft, attack helicopters and enemy drones. This would mark a significant milestone in the modernisation of the Air Defence Regiments and enhance the Indian Army’s operational readiness, while contributing to the economic growth of the nation.
The procurement marks a pivotal step towards empowering indigenous defence industries by encouraging Indian MSMEs through components’ manufacturing and raw material supply.

I mean usually base estimate like 30nos + few additional as backup usually ~ 10% of base estimate number or a fixed few units whichever is lower.

Lots of Isreali subsystems are bought by BEL, shipped in every Q. Like many electronics lru, see for filters
russia could be a option for fabrication, russians are not too ahead of everyone else in the photonic radar development, everyone are in the same boat right now per say, and russian photonic radar project is well funded too, we can collabrate with them, they have the working prototype,

We also have a proto photonic radar now, for which software & related work has started too.

Athulya radar order is for 24 numbers to be delivered in 3 years.
The LBMR will mostly be the primary BMR for the project KUSHA, similar to the 91N6E of the s400. This means, the project kusha is probably being modelled after the S400.
Was that not obvious from the desi S-400 tag before ?
Anyway, Axiscades have given a breakdown of their recently secured orders, Kusha one is dev cost 9 cr and production cost around 150cr.
