Without the SPS added if depolyed in current form, they can be shot down by Soviet era Strella MANPADs even. Plus without ATGM they do not have a weapon to take out armour at ground. Therefore this line doesn't make sense.

It might have been put up for mock trials in case of conflict by the IAF to test the machine out.

But this is 100% sure that they were not put out at the frontline against China. They would be big turkeys even for the militias affiliated to PLA.

Let me start on a positive note before I bring out the reality of the dismal state of the Indian military helicopter fleet.

The non-availability of a suitable airborne ATGM not only greatly impacts the operational capability of the Rudra but also the LCH project of HAL. All previous efforts to acquire a suitable ATGM through import have come to a naught due to stonewalling by DRDO giving false hopes and assurances, which they have not been able to fulfil, leaving the armed forces high and dry.

Even more shocking is that these helicopters still do not have the Mistral air to air missiles. Their import is stuck in some bureaucratic pricing muddle for the last six years.

Australia and Germany look to retire their Tiger's. So there will be over 70 on the secondhand market. They have low hours. It may be worth India having a look at them.

That project is synonymous with failure. We already have LCH which is of the same class and better performance in indian conditions. There is no chance of tiger in india. That too used.

infact, Australia should go back on the Apache purchase (Without informing US obviously) and look into LCH as a replacement to show their commitment towards QUAD. :)

The Australian ones are ok now. The bad history is well documented, to get them to where they are. Going forward with future upgrades is where we have issues. They will be sold off to an army that will value them, in their current capabilities. Work with the Airbus on upgrades they need in the future. If obtained at the right price, they could be a transition platform to the LCH. It would be hard to see them sold and stripped for parts.

Thanks for the LCH idea. We may need to show our support in QUAD by other means. Possible exchange postings would be good.

If there is existing infrastructure and platform having enough life left, there is no harm in adding numbers. However if it's a new bird, then it is not advisable.
 
Are there any updates on the HAL LCH?

As per Hindustan Times, as of September, the limited series production orders for the LCH were yet to be placed. Not to mention, there was no sign of the full rate production order.

LSP aircraft is now flying (check posts above). HAL started production before the actual order to speed things up. Full rate production is atleast 2 years away.
