DRDO Very short-range air-defence system (VSHORADS) : MANPAD Developments

We've bought Stingers for our Apache fleet and Mistrals for LCH. Can they be used as manpads if need be (with the associated sights, launchers, of course) or would they need modifications?

The numbers are not that great to be impactful.

If we are able to refurbish older Strela missiles in our inventory, that would be more impactful. But we have an ongoing Igla procurement going on. Let's see.

I hope against hope that MPDMS shows some progress.

indranil thinks this missile is one of the most innovative in the market. Just shows that comparing brochure numbers is almost always misleading.

DRDO's missile game is probably among the best in the world. Within a single organization[DRDO] there are scientists who can design everything from man-portable sams to ICBMs to hypersonic glide vehicles.

You mean China? Anza is a rebadged QW-series weapon, license produced in PK. Just like their new Faaz AAM which is a copy of the Chinese SD-10.

Does it matter at all? They can make it locally now.

Anza is Strela based system. That's a generation behind Igla used by Indian Army.

Its range is much more than Sterla-2 or Sterla-2M.

Original Anzas hardly did 2-3km altitude. Even now the max engagement altitude would be 4km. That's no feat.

Strela with older motor is shooting down helicopters in mountains.

That's a phenomenal feature for a manpads to have. Is the seeker IR or IIR though?

Some sort of multi band IR seeker , dual-band Imaging Infra-Red Seeker

RCI DIIRS make all these hence we do not get full spec most times.

Just want this clarification, why IA had placed order Igla & Star steak missile when we have this missile? Is it because this isn't man portable?

Also why star streak when we already have placed order for Igla

VSHORAD launcher named CROSSHAIR-N from Adani Defence:

Naval launcher? RIM-116 missile launcher has 21 missiles in pod. We can't even get 10 per launcher.
