General News, Questions And Discussions - Indian Navy

The ships having gas turbines from Ukarine
1. 8 active Veer Class , for a average service of 30 years they will be in IN till around 2030. But this ship is widely used design. Spares shouldn't be a problem here.

2. 10 Talwar Class. This is the main issue. 6 are in service. As Russian Navy also hold 3 of the same in service, I think the spares and service part might be ok. The real problem starts with the new 4. Out of 4 as previously explained, 2 in Russia have their sets. But the 2 in Goa, don't. I think these two hulls might get abandoned.

3. 3 Rajput Class Destroyers. The newest is 36 years old. So not really a worry.

4. 10 P15 class. Out of which I have doubts only with 1 ship. Rest should be fine.

So these 31 ships are real worry. 10 P15 and 10 Talwar class. We need a solution for them.

The Russians have developed a variant which they've used to power their latest Admiral Gorshkov class of guided missile frigates. They got NPO to design the marine turbine engine after Ukraine turned them down in 2014 . Apparently BHEL has also signed an agreement last year end with Zorya Mashproekt for local manufacturing of spares which hasn't been operationalized till date for obvious reasons. The scope of the agreement too is unknown. Video linked in #641 is fairly detailed.

The only issue is they're brand new & the said frigate was commissioned either last year or a year before that. It's performance parameters needs to be checked.

In case the situation truly gets beyond control by the end of this year ( by which time we should have a good idea about where do we stand) , the only go to option would be Russia. Then again I've no idea if this is a drop in fit.

Then there's the issue of the An-32 too though it's not an immediate issue given the fact that the modernization & Upgradation package has been implemented across the fleet.

Indian Navy is looking to procure 1 Shore Based Generic Submarine Combat System Simulator (GSCSS) to be based in
Vishakapatnam. The system will be able to imitate the combat systems of Kilo , Type209 and Scorpene class submarines too. RFI released.

Only to show off like bollywood. Indian commanders piss in their pants when war comes and talk about peace and economy.
The motivation behind functioning of Indian Armed Forces is radically different from the Jihadi mindset. They are more than capable enough to take on enemies. In every previous conflict Indian Armed Forces faced almost a numerically par force with technically superior technology and better foreign backing. Still we stand today. That says a lot about the metal of armed forces.

Indian Navy has 2 ships under construction in Russia and 37 ships will be made in India (Some are under construction, others have been ordered).

Additionally AoN has been granted for 41 more ships, all to be built in India. The breakup is still not clear though.

We have Joint EEZ Surveillance in place with Maldives, Mauritius and Seychelles. These 3 nations have active agreements. Mozambique has a MoU for similar arrangement.

Co-ordinated Patrol agreements are in place with Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia and Thailand.

What exactly is this multi purpose vessel?
"These vessels, which will be built at the L&T shipyard in Kattupally (Chennai), will perform multi-role support functions such as maritime surveillance and patrol, torpedo launching and recovery, and operation of various types of aerial, surface, and underwater targets for gunnery, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) firing exercises,” the Navy said.

With minimal medical ship capability, they would be able to tow ships and provide Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) support. They will also serve as a test bed for naval weaponry and sensors in development, a support platform for ISV and salvage operations, and a logistics support platform for our island territories, according to the announcement.

IMEX 22 - A look back at a multinational humanitarian assistance exercise conducted by France and India

On 30 March 2022, the IMEX 22 exercise co-organised by France and India concluded with a visit by Admiral Pierre Vandier, Chief of the Naval Staff, and his Indian counterpart Admiral Hari Kumar on board the amphibious helicopter carrier (PHA) Mistral.

The exercise brought together the nations of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), off the coast of Goa from 28 to 30 March. Currently deployed in the Indian Ocean, the JEANNE D'ARC group - composed of PHA Mistral, FLF Courbet and BSAM Loire - participated in this multinational exercise focused on humanitarian assistance alongside the Indian, Iranian and Bangladeshi navies.

The scenario was a cyclone off the coast of Goa. Based on this realistic framework, numerous exercises at sea were conducted by the JEANNE D'ARC group with the Indian frigates Chenai and Gharial, the Iranian ship Denna and the Bangladeshi Navy's Prottasha. For three days, the crews coordinated their actions to conduct tactical evolutions, rescue at sea, assistance to a ship in difficulty, medical assistance and helicopter deployment. These exercises enabled the application of the operational strategies put in place within the framework of the French presidency of the IONS and thus to operate in concert between the nations of the Indian Ocean.

The exercises conducted by the PHA Mistral confirmed France's leading role in the field of population relief thanks to the Mistral's on-board amphibious and enhanced medical capabilities.

Following the IMEX 22 exercise, the annual VARUNA training will be an opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation with India, a key partner for France in the Indian Ocean.

Does anybody have any inkling of the surprise, 3 major combatant's probable service commissioning on same day in August 2022, 1 SSBN, 1 carrier and 1 destroyer just like Chinese did last year? I have been thinking about this probable timeline after Chinese induction.
