Ghatak and Rustom Indigenous UAV Programs

The more apt question is whether it is desirable to have drones fitted with missiles. I don't see how drones can work against an advanced enemy. Primitive people can be targeted with drones but not even slightly advanced enemy with WW2 era AAA guns.

Conventionally designed drones like Predator and Reaper are needed for pre-conflict times. So before the shooting begins, they can collect a lot of intel. Even blow up something on our side of the border when dealing with infiltration, SF operations etc.

Once the conflict begins, they will likely be grounded or just flown in safe zones during the first few days.

They can come back in the picture again once SEAD/DEAD has been successful. Especially if the enemy air force has also been destroyed.

AAA is not effective against drones. They lack the range and altitude necessary to engage MALEs and HALEs.

Syria, Libya & Armenia wars already shown how wrong that assumption is. Azarbaijan's Drones even destroyed few batteries of s-300,not to talk about the number of AAA guns and other SAM batteries it destroyed.

Just because airdefece exists doesn't mean drones are out of play. That's like saying "enemy rifles doesn't matter anymore now that we have bullet proof jackets". Drones are now cheaper than Tanks and can bring more value to battle field. If anything, they are harder to disable than Tanks.

That thing has nothing to do with Ghatak.. SWiFT is a 1 ton aircraft if I'm not mistaken. It hasn't been flown yet. Next year is what Shiv Aroor said.

But you're right.
If it's nothing to do with the Ghatak, what's ADA doing there? Besides IISc is one of the technology partners of ADA for both the Ghatak & AMCA programs.

In all likelihood this UAV must be an extension of the Proof of Concept of SWIFT.
