Indian Aircraft Crash Notification

Rafale is immediately available to us compared to LCA MK1A due to the low production rate. Yes, it's expensive but 1/4th of Mig 21 number will be enough to add the deterrence and offensive capability to IAF.
i agree. if you order in large number, france might reduce price further. it's your decision. rafale can continue services until 2050. technology is evolving fast specially after the introduction of AI in this field.

Phan-bhais and Cohens here have proved it conclusively that Mig 21 Reindeer is superior to F16 and F35s.
IAF should fly these buffalos till kingdom come. They deserve it for all the buffoonery done in the name of MMRCA 1 and 2 and in all probability 3.

They always has an option to replace these Death traps with LCA, which may not be as advanced as Rafales and F35 but at least it was reliable and the OEM was willing to go an extra mile to satisfy the demands. But No.....it’s either Bugatti or Premier Padmini. No compromise position

May be maintenance fund allocated to MIG21 aircraft is the root cause of this issue since we have these fighter planes in good numbers, Both IAF and MOD should answer why they are still flying these outdated Migs

IAF MiG-21 Bison crashes in Punjab field, killing pilot. The deceased was identified as Squadron Leader Abhinav Choudhary. India Air Force has to seriously look at the efficacy of continuing with MiG 21 and about its maintenance.

Sir, I did not want to post it here but now I must tell you the truth. USSR and later Russia stopped producing even spare parts for MIg-21s in 2005. We bought surplus spare parts from erst while Soviet Republics to keep the fleet going. Most of those spares had already expried their life cycle validity. We kept flying these aircraft thru those life expired spares by recertifying them as being good. Every Govt in India has blood of its finest men and young officers on their hands for following this. The real culprits as ususal are the Babus in MOD who were supported by some highly ambitious officers from IAF who gave them counter opinion of such spares to rise to become AM.
Respected sir, Taali do haath se bajti hai. We had corrupt UPA and its Babus and also eqally corrupt IAF officials.

Government, irrespective of dispensation, doesn't care if people live or die.

Government is representation of society itself. We get what we deserve.

Tejas Mk2? Let the Mk1 first deliver all its promised capabilities. Maybe then we can move on to mk1a and then maybe Mk2 in future.... Long way with progress as slow as ever.
Ignore the Mk-2 part. The rest of that infographic is illuminating. I expect most of the pilots we lost were in the 1990's & MiG 23s as well as MiG-27s contributed to those casualties in addition to the ones from MiG-21. @Milspec ; @vstol Jockey

The Mig-21 is well past its expiry date. It should have been phased out between 2015 and 2020. The IAF knows this already, but the LCA wasn't ready at all. Which is why our air chief said the LCA Mk1A is needed in utmost urgency, which is also why the program went through instead of waiting for the LCA Mk2.

We are on verge of retiring 1 squadron a year of those remaining Mig21s and by 2025 1st quarter , they will be gone. But I highly doubt that we will even have 1 Mk1A squadron ready by that time to fill the gap of 4 squadrons. What instead should have been done was additional Rafale and Su30MKI. But here we are. What do I say.

A lot of blame will fall on the work culture of HAL too.

A contract that should have been signed at the end of 2019 got delayed by a year because HAL got a bit too greedy. It's also likely they increased the prices so the govt calls for negotiations and this way HAL buys more time for the development of Mk1A.

So yeah, with 2 jets to be delivered by March 2024, and the remaining every year after that at a minimum of 16/year, we are going to see a delivery cycle of 6 years. Basically, the year we will decommission the last Mig-21, we will commission the first full Mk1A squadron. So we will have to manage our western border with only about 50-60 jets, not a good position to be in. It will take at least 2 more years for us to be in a comfortable position.

I hope the Kiran hangar is properly leveraged to reduce the delivery time.

The Best and Quickest Replacement for MiG 21 is and was the MIG 29

But Somewhere , I believe that MIG 21 is used as a Psychological Tool and Test by IAF throwing its pilots in the Deep End of the pool , to remove the fear of flying

They are still using MIG 21 at MOFTU as the First supersonic Jet after HAWK
