Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested Phase-II Ballistic MissileDefence System on July 24, 2024. The Target Missile was launched from LC-IV Dhamra at 1620 hrs mimicking adversary Ballistic Missile, which was detected by weapon system radars deployed on land and sea and activated the AD Interceptor system. The Phase-II AD Endo-atmospheric missile was launched from LC-III at ITR, Chandipurat 1624 hrs. The flight test fully met all the trial objectives validating complete network centric warfare weapon system consisting of Long Range Sensors, low latency communication system and MCC and Advance Interceptormissiles.The test has demonstrated Nation’s indigenous capability to defend against the Ballistic Missiles of 5000 km class. The performance of the missile was monitored from the flight data captured by Range trackinginstruments like Electro-Optical Systems, Radar and Telemetry Stations deployed by ITR,Chandipur atvarious locations including on-board ship.The Phase-II AD Endo-atmospheric missile is an indigenously developed Two Stage solid propelled groundlaunched missile system meant for neutralising many types of enemy ballistic missile threats in the altitudebracket of endo to low exo-atmospheric regions. A number of state-of-the-art indigenous technologies developed by various DRDO laboratories have been incorporated in the missile system.Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh complimented DRDO for today’s successful flight test and stated that it has again demonstrated the Ballistic Missiles Defence capability.Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated entire DRDOteam for their untiring effort and contribution culminating into today’s successful flight test.

So it was AD-1 tested again. Nice. It has the capability to not only take down Ballistic Missiles at both endo/low exo atmosphere but it can hunt down aircrafts too @marich01, @Fatalis; could it become part of our XRSAM/ERSAM/LRSAM program? What say??

We're also developing universal BMD launchers which shall be capable of firing all 4-types(AAD, PDV, AD-1 & AD-2)!

All of these are to be canisterised eventually if not already , so hopefully modular enough for ship and TCT land use.

It's incredible how far we've come. At one point, the Prithvi 1 was deemed unfit for service because of the need to load fuel just before launch and accuracy issues. Today, offshoots of the same missiles are cannisterized and with composite stages to boot.

There are at least 4 projects for AD of course, but not necessarily considering PDV or PAD , could be more if AD-II exo is separate. More should get revealed in time.

Are the last ones(Phase 3) designed to intercept HGVs?? Just guessing

Really nothing is known , also no telling which is tech demo project and which is not except the obvious stage mentioned ones. I guess one maybe be ASAT related, that must be one project feeding into both the BMD versions endo and exo with a common class of rocket motor being used as one stage.
