Smaller EO/IR pod is under development for LUH. And for naval applications, altitude is not an issue, so I think a small SAR pod can also be carried without an issue.
But let's see.
Because the figure 12k crore bugs me.
Deal was signed only for 56 units to IAF.
Although the approvals were given for 56+6=62 airframes.
Now for that 6, they are trying to club the requirements of Navy too. 6+9=15
And Navy isn't actually wanting them very badly. Navy wants more P8Is and MQ9Bs.
Yes. No issue for IAF.
Actually no issue for IN too. Only a issue for ICG.
Their budget actually decreased from last year. Would be difficult for them to order C295 MPA this year too.
OPV and 9 more Dhruv tender more important.
Sarojini Naidu Class Fast Patrol Vessel decommissioned after 20 years of service.
Maybe we will refurbish it and donate it to a nation in IOR.
Why is the lifespan of ICG vessels shorter than IN ships? What is the technical differentiator ... sheet metal alloy and width etc? If I recall correctly, ICG ships are built to commercial standards - but what does that mean exactly?
GSL is already building 02 Pollution Control Vessels and 08 Fast Patrol Vessels for the ICG.

Defence Ministry signs contract for construction of the first Indian Coast Guard Training Ship with Mazagon Dock & Shipbuilders Ltd, Mumbai
Posted On: 17 OCT 2023 5:19PM by PIB DelhiThe Ministry of Defence signed a contract for the construction of one Training Ship for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL), Mumbai at a cost of Rs 310 crore under the Buy (Indian- IDDM) category in New Delhi on October 17, 2023. This is the first dedicated training platform with integral helicopter capabilities that will provide basic sea training to 70 Coast Guard and other international under-trainee officers to prepare these budding mariners on the multi-dimensional maritime aspects of Coast Guard life.
This training ship with advanced and modern high-tech surveillance and monitoring systems will provide profound insight and expertise to the ICG cadets on the challenges at sea while ensuring the security of coastline and offshore assets.
The majority of equipment and systems will be sourced from indigenous manufacturers, including MSMEs. The project envisages to generate significant employment over a period of three years. While meeting the objectives of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, the contract would also boost the indigenous shipbuilding capability and help in bolstering maritime economic capabilities.
