Tirupati Forge Ltd on Saturday said it received an industrial licence under the Indian Arms Act, 1959, to manufacture empty artillery shells, enabling the company to enter the
defence manufacturing sector and expand its presence in strategic defence supplies.
The licence covers the production of major artillery shell calibres, including 105 mm, 120 mm, 122 mm, 125 mm, 130 mm, 152 mm and 155 mm variants.
Under the 155 mm category, the approval includes HE M107, HE L15A1, Extended Range Full Bore (ERFB), ERFB Base Bleed (BB) and ERFB Boat Tail (BT) ammunition variants.
The development places Tirupati Forge among a limited group of licensed domestic manufacturers in the
artillery ammunition supply chain, as India continues to push for greater self-reliance in defence production.
The company has an initial production capacity of 150,000 units annually and plans to begin pilot manufacturing runs in December 2026 before moving towards commercial-scale production.
