It's the Barracuda same size.
And 3 of our new SSBNs from S-5 onwards will have the same size as the Triomphant class.

Absolutely correct. We need to push for at least 2 More carriers. Navy should step down from Uber expensive nuclear power catobar and should push for bigger IAC 1 ins Vikrant based carriers. With TEDBF now gaining momentum we will be able to have a decent stobar 4 CBGs which can be made operational within a decade. While I'm glad that the submarine program is going ahead, I think the govt has been suckered into the propaganda that it's easy to kill a carrier. The Americans have done a very good job of pushing such propaganda covertly, and it's obvious that the only ones suckered into believing this are those who have never sailed in their lives.
The reason why a submarine is dangerous is all because of its ability to avoid line of sight. A submarine rarely enters line of sight, hence it's difficult to track and kill. But people forget that a carrier works in the same way, ie, by staying out of line of sight. While a submarine has the ability to hide from sensors, a carrier battle group has the ability to hide from sensors using distance/range, as well as kill the sensor if necessary, it doesn't matter where the sensor is; air, land, sea, subsea or space.
I hope that the navy seriously pushes for a carrier program after the SSNs are dealt with. It's fine even if there's a year or two of delays, the design itself will take many years to complete anyway, so a huge chunk of the spending will happen the next decade.
@vstol Jockey
Also the reason why Chinese were not able to do anything after Galwan incidents and failed to achieve their objectives and a resurgent Indian Army and defence ministry which @safriz isn't able to get decipher....The test in Jan 2020 was conducted by the SFC, so you tell me.

why do we need to operate heavier aircraft from carrier when our operational needs dont exceed much beyond Indian ocean ? All those support air crafts have long range and can fly from the coast itself.Nah, more Vikrant class will be useless. We definitely need CATOBAR because only such carriers can operate heavier aircraft, like AWACS, drones and transports.

More than that our carriers are so small that they dont have much space for fighters itself and now you want to add AWACS to it. At the best they can accommodate drones , any thing beyond that is pretty hard to imagine.
where in the world is that, how are we even related to western pacific.Western Pacific.

Seriously , do you really think our fleets will even cross the malacca strait ? India will never politically commit to move beyond malacca. Our control ends near malacca straits any thing beyond that is simply beyond our capability. We would need a completely larger expeditionary force like US has, which we can hardly expect from India.SCS, ECS etc are all Western Pacific. Anything west of Hawaii.
You're confused with the Eastern Pacific, which is along the US coastline.
Design and development of SSN is almost complete I don't understand stand how any foreign country can help us.Indo-Pacific in mind, Navy pitches for six nuclear attack submarines
The nuclear powered attack submarines will give Indian Navy the much needed long legs for deterrent patrols and access denial in the Indo-Pacific without giving away its position.www.google.com
Exactly, journalist is unreliable.Design and development of SSN is almost complete I don't understand stand how any foreign country can help us.
So, next step is allocating funds -> laying the keel? Which shipyard will be building the subs?Design and development of SSN is almost complete I don't understand stand how any foreign country can help us.
Most likely after S4* is off the assembly line , then assembly of 1st SSN should begin at SBC only. So, next step is allocating funds -> laying the keel? Which shipyard will be building the subs?
Maybe he is confusing a foreign partner to consult for manufacturing/testing/certifying as a foreign partner helping in design/etc .Exactly, journalist is unreliable.
In his last article he claimed the project is waiting for AoN. While it happened five years ago. The project is waiting for final CCS clearance, almost everything should have been decided by now.Maybe he is confusing a foreign partner to consult for manufacturing/testing/certifying as a foreign partner helping in design/etc .

There is lot of difference between having a naval exercise for show and really sending a fighting fleet.
We are part of Asia Pacific region (smaller compared to Indo Pacific region). A&N is effectively part of of it and located on the edge of Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean, and above all our immediate interests are there in this region as well. Hence having a fleet capable of securing our interests is a better choice than not having one.where in the world is that, how are we even related to western pacific.
First we need to have a fleet wherein at will (even if in sometime future if USA is not so close, that shouldn't hamper our defence against China) , that we can totally stop and blockade the Malacca and Sunda straits totally. This type of force level is 20 years away currently. Maybe after 2040 we can start talking about SCS and Pacific. We have interests there. We will most definitely operate in the SCS even during wartime.
Regardless, if we are to control IOR, including Malacca, we still need control south of Indonesia, which needs carriers.
We need carriers, there's no two ways about it.

Doing that now means taking out a ship from somewhere else. When we can do that without doing a compromise elsewhere, only then we can start to look after going beyond. We can already do that with our current fleet. Once Vikrant is inducted, 2 carriers will give us at least 6-9 months at sea every year at the minimum. Plus we can deploy the Nerpa as well.
