Indian Political Discussion

If freebies weren't enough, we now have a coalition govt handing out 'special packages' to AP and Bihar.

Roads and highways can be justified but vanity projects like a new state capital are a drain on the country's finances.

India needs new cities that are well planned from the start. 95% of our cities are unplanned messes.

We have 3 levels of government. The Central, State and Local level.

95% of the problems of citizens can be resolved by Local Level Govt. But no one questions the Local Level Govt.

I live in Gurugram, on the Golf Cource Road, probably the 2nd most costly area in India after South Mumbai. Come rains and you will see people living in 100 crore flats driving their BMWs in 2 feet drain water.

Everyone (left or right) questions the PM, some question the CM too. But I haven't come across anyone questioning the Mayor.

The only solution is to merge the 3 levels of government into 2.

Delhi Jal Board has a loan of some 70,000 crores. If those crooks spent half of that sincerely, Delhi wouldn't face water scarcity during the summers.

But we do not question.

ppl at local govt level are literally the goondas.
if rich ppl cant take on these goondas what makes you think rest of the poor schmucks can fight them.

Start asking questions. You think the local ward rep is a bigger goon than a sitting MP?

My hometown Ranchi, a capital of the state has no public transport system till date. While plans for 180-200 buses were put up way back atleast in 2017.

When I voted this time, I asked my rep what's the status of the tender and what's happening with the ₹2800 crore annual budget.

Few people on the streets for few days caused the GoI to roll back Farm Bills. If people just start asking questions, that will be the beginning of improvement.
India shouldn't have allowed this bs.

Indian bases as of date are not being used by US assets engaged in attacks on Iran.

PB, WB, AP, and KL placed at the bottom tier. Andhra Pradesh's debt grew 60% in just 4 years. PB - Worst overall (12.4/100); debt at 48% of GDP; 20% of revenue goes to interest payments alone.

I do hope that the GoI wakes up to the fact that it needs to push an initiative to counter disinfo. that floats around. There are few accounts that run fact checks. However, the TAT for them seems to be quite high. I had posted this in the Iran war thread earlier.

India has about 60 days of fuel stock cover, the government said on Thursday (March 26, 2026), adding that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG as it dismissed reports of shortages as a "deliberate misinformation campaign" aimed at triggering panic buying.

"Actual stock cover is around 60 days right now (including crude stocks, products stocks and the dedicated strategic storage in caverns) even as we are on the 27th day of the Middle East crisis," it said.

"Nearly two months of steady supply is available for every Indian citizen regardless of what happens globally." With next two months of crude procurement already secured, India is completely secure for next many months and the quantity in strategic cavern storage becomes secondary in such a supply situation, it said.

"Any representation that India's reserves are depleted or insufficient should be dismissed with the disdain it deserves," the ministry said.

It added that crude supplies remain stable despite tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, with higher volumes from alternative sources offsetting any disruption. Indian refiners are operating at above full capacity, and crude supplies for the next 60 days have already been secured.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry has said that the government is making all efforts to ensure availability of Petrol, Diesel and LPG across the country. It has advised citizens to avoid panic purchase of Petrol and Diesel and unnecessary booking of LPG.

The Ministry said it has taken proactive steps to ensure the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and LPG. The five-kilogram cylinders are available at nearby LPG distributorships and can be purchased by showing any valid ID proof. The Ministry added that no address proof is required to purchase five-kilogram cylinders. It added that about five lakh 70 thousand cylinders weighing five kilograms have been sold since the 23rd of last month. It said online LPG cylinder bookings have increased to 95 per cent, and around 51 lakh domestic LPG cylinders were delivered yesterday. The Ministry has also encouraged citizens to use alternative fuels such as PNG, induction and electric cooktops. More than 3.5 lakh PNG connections have been gasified since last month, and more than 3.8 lakh customers have been registered for new connections. It said all refineries are operating at high capacity, with adequate crude inventories in place.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is continuously monitoring shipping movements, port operations and the safety of Indian seafarers, while ensuring continuity of maritime trade. The Ministry informed that LPG vessel Green Sanvi has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, carrying 46 thousand 650 metric tonnes of LPG cargo with 25 seafarers on board. A total of 17 Indian-flagged vessels, with 460 Indian seafarers, remain in the western Persian Gulf region.

The Ministry said that flight operations are improving, and around six lakh 75 thousand passengers have travelled from the region to India since 28th February. It said that in an attack in Abu Dhabi, five Indian nationals were injured; four have been discharged, and one remains under treatment. The mission is extending full assistance and coordinating with local authorities.

Industry bodies have welcomed the government’s decision to grant customs duty exemption on a wide range of critical petrochemical products. Talking to the media general manager for Policy and Strategic Affairs with Involution Healthcare Private Limited, Ravi Rathod said that the decision to grant full customs duty exemption on several petrochemical inputs will ensure manufacturing continuity and prevent price hikes in essential medical devices.

Mr Rathod said that the decision will not only help in stabilising rising input costs for the industries but will also offer them immediate relief. Meanwhile, Chairman of Victora tools, S S Banga, termed the exemptions as a major boost and said that the step will ease input costs, improve availability, and support domestic as well as export markets. He added that the measures are expected to stabilise industries and safeguard India’s exports during the current crisis, along with logistics and financial support.
