What this picture tells us about our history, nation-building & our current politics. Here is my take:
1- History matters so much for ppl. Ppl voted absolutely based on ethnic lines. Country is sadly divided between Pushtun & non-Pushtun when there is election. Abdullah Khenjani on Twitter ( )

That's the most logical solution I have came to think of about Afghanistan. When they don't have any feeling of unity why is world keeping them united and making them fight? Divide them, Taliban won't be much of a problem as they will get an area to rule and half of Afghanistan will get relief from stone age jihadis.

Taliban free from world pressure, with land in hand, people to govern and less resources will be more amenable and more hostile towards Pakistan. Hope someone present this idea to Trump, I have no doubt being the freak he is, he can arrange for UN endorsed plebiscite and legitimize it.

I didn't even know there were tweeps whitewashing the Soviet-Afghan war until @suraiasahar tweeted/rt some stuff. Afghan historians worked too hard to push back on US narratives only to have ppl who found communism 2 days ago try to rewrite history. So let's do this: Dog Who Bites on Twitter ( )

My brain tells me that partitioning Afghanistan into a Pashtun south and cosmopolitan north would be ideal, but something in my gut gives me pause. Perhaps its the reminder of how poorly a partition can go (especially wrt partition of India). The partition would also effectively create a Pashtun dominated client state for Pakistan, one that might even integrate with Pakistan.

That's where the fun will begin, that will be undoing of Pakistan and Taliban. New States have way too much pride, combined with already tainted reputation of Taliban as a Pakistani stooges they have to take extreme decision against Pakistan to get acceptance in society.

As far as integration goes it doesn't work like that, not with people with high pride and historical separate identity. If anything they will try to integrate parts of Pakistan into their newly formed country. They will be Nepal of Pakistan, only worst with people already trained and available for suicide bombing and wage war.

AFG is planning to build 13 dams, & reservoirs upstream on Kabul River. Upon completion there would be a drastic reduction in water flow into Pak & would create a serious food & security crisis as millions in Peshawar valley depend for their sustenance https://t.co/5PVukPsBMf ( )
