Nehru never had the military or diplomatic advantage that politicians today have. India was no different then from how Zimbabwe is today.
India had the upper hand militarily. Pakistan was outgunned and outmaneuvered in the field. If Nehru had not listened to Sheikh Abdullah and pressed on we would have at least regained Skardu this whole Siachen mess would have been avoided.
Diplomatic I can't comment, but Militarily no. Most of the brass was either WWII trained or lead by WWII veterans. There was significant hardware compared to the adversaries, but the procurement was absolute crap due to Non-Aligned movement.

I told you it didn't look like any US-India deal, I don't know how people are connecting dots and putting feel good stories but India was nowhere in US list of priorities.
They have tried their best to get India in Afghanistan but we didn't budge, to get into SCS but we backed off, we are of not much value to them regarding this region. Pakistan is however ready to kill his troops at right price for US and when they leave the mess behind Pakistan can even take the blame for them. We have very very limited utility for them, more for essays and articles of democracies and all, Pakistan is first choice militarily because of their readiness for selling their soul.
If anything this 370 move was a royal F*U from Modi to Trump after his repetition of meditation offer. He ignored it first time but second time he felt this unnecessary party to the dispute be shown it's place. If Trump didn't offer to meditate 370 may not have gone away with this urgency. Side effect of this act is Afghanistan where US is stuck again. @_Anonymous_ how you concluded India-US cooperation on this? Everything tells us it was quite opposite and the magnitude of this action is so high that US is exercising caution before saying anything more that can have even worst implications for them.

Just a hunch. The deal with Taliban is mostly done. All that remains to be seen is how many do the US withdraw & how soon? As it is the neighborhood is hostile to the US. Barring the GoA & India they've hardly any friends there - testimony to brilliant US diplomacy. With them our of the way watch how Iran & Russia's ties with the Taliban cool off.
