Kashmir : Counter Terror Operation Updates and Discussions

Contract has conditions. Waging war against India breaks those conditions.

How long? It has been 70 years and we know that a solution to this situation is not going to come foreward. Meanwhile Jammu and Ladhak are getting penalized for no good reason. About time we give these good people their fair share. Political and Legal hurdle are brick walls. They are meant to be broken.

Well, for one thing, Kashmir Valley is a warzone. Simple. Low to medium intensity war has been on-going in the region for last 30 years or so. If you keep people in warzone, they will be hurt. Simple option is move them out of warzone by any means. Its a state of ongoing emergency in that region and should be dealt likewise. Sooner the better.
Now anyone who remains in warzone and wages war against the nation is fair game because at that point they are not the citizens but enemy combatant. Countries like Australia and Canada have recently passed terror-laws which can strip people of their citizenship if they take part in terrorism even outside the national boundary. About time India also follows the suit. You kill Indian police force, army, national leaders; you are fair game and if you threaten family of Indian civil and military workers, your family is fair game. There is a reason why in USA no one dares to do this. In past US has been extremely vindictive of anyone acting anti-state.

Nations at time have to commit muders to keep the nation intact. Those who wage war against nations and those who abet them are no longer citizens. They are enemy combatant.

Even large scale demographic change would go quite a distance towards changing the situation. Flood the valley with ex-servicemen and some Haryana & UP/Bihar types giving away land at throwaway rates; disproportionately tilt the population ratio in favor of mainland Indians from rougher places, provide them adequate arms and training for self defense along with some sort of guaranteed sustenance, and maybe look the other way during any sort of civilian clashes; then let's see how long this nonsense lasts.

In UPA2 there was a proposal to settle ex servicemen in the valley. It never went forward after that. Im sure @Hellfire might know more about it

Having an alliance with terrorist sympathizer Mufti of PDP was a big mistake. She has ensured that every institution right from schools to govt offices filled with ppl who are inimical to the state. Killing terrorists is hardly going to solve the problem as there is no shortage of useful idiots in the valley.

India should work on long term plan which silently eliminates the pro-pakistani assets and brings back the vital sectors like education & commerce to align with mainstream. This requires a PSYOP mentality not hard nosed chest thumping muscular policy. What I dont understand is how NIA raids or arrests are going to help the situation? When common criminals find holes in law to getaway will the terrorist sympathizers be any less than them?

That is why there are laws against that. and those who do break the conditions, by waging war against the State are eliminated, or arrested. The Entire Population of Kashmir isn't breaking it.

As long as it takes. The Indian Republic isn't going anywhere. NE separatism since 1950s has been far more bloody and ingrained, but now slowly things are settling down. It needs to be done. But again no magic wand to do it. It will take 3 generations to root it out, at least after the complete cessation of hostilities, both ideologically and physically. so about 50 Years from the day the trifurcation is done.

The entire valley is NOT a war zone. It was one in 1990s and early 2000 post 2008-9 it has been better.. much much better. violence presently is not even at 1% of what it was in its peak. Presently only 4-5 districts remain affected with insurgency. So let me repeat myself Kashmir is NOT a warzone. It is an insurgency affected area.

Those who raise arms are taken care of, one way or the other.

For the bold part if you could link an US Federal act as such I'll be glad. Also, no they are not fair game. they might not be agreeing to their view, association doesn't make them a partner in crime.

Nations at time have to commit muders to keep the nation intact. Those who wage war against nations and those who abet them are no longer citizens. They are enemy combatant.

Nations act in a manner as established by due process of Law. Those who wage war are singled out and delt with. That happens in every state of India where there is a case for such.

Most top commanders were struck down by joint operations of the Army.
HIGHLIGHTS
  • In 2016, 150 millitants were killed
  • A total of 213 millitants were eliminated in 2017
  • Suspension of counter insurgency operations was aimed at providing a chance to peace
With the elimination of top Hizb commander Manan Wani and his associate Ashiq Hussain in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, the total number of millitants killed since January this year has reached 163.
Most encounters broke out in south Kashmir Anantnag, Pulwama and Shopian districts where 89 millitants were killed and in north Kashmir 39 millitants eliminated. The other millitants were killed in central Kashmir.
In 2016, 150 millitants were killed. A total of 213 millitants were eliminated in 2017.
After launching 'operation all out' by security forces against millitants in the middle of 2017, most top commanders were struck down by joint operations of the Army, CRPF and JKP. Security forces succeeded in eliminating A and A++ category millitants which include Abu Dujana and Bashir Lashkari of LeT; Sabzar Bhat, Abu Haris, Manan Wani and Yasin Itoo of Hizbul Mujahideen.
Though there was a lull in 'operation all out' during the month of Ramzan which started from May 17, the suspension of counter insurgency operations was aimed at providing a chance to peace but millitants did not follow truce and carried out several attacks on security forces.
Security forces maintained restraint, but millitants carried out several attacks during that period in which eminent journalist Shujat Bukhari was assassinated. Security forces resumed the operation on 17 June of and since then almost on a regular basis, security forces have launched CSO's checking and search operations in different towns and villages of Kashmir valley to hunt down millitants.
Zakir Musa of Gazwat ul Hind, Riyaz Naikoo of Hizbul Mujahideen and Zeenat ul Islam of LeT are on the top hit list categorised as A++. These millitants are involved in many cases of attack on security forces, killings of policemen and civilians.
The challenge on the other hand for the Army is to stop infiltration as winters are ahead and most peaks will get covered with snow. Due to western disturbance, winter season started earlier this year and most peaks of the valley will recieve snowfall.

Three militants, one police officer killed in Jammu and Kashmir encounter

SRINAGAR: Three militants, including a wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, and a policeman were killed during an encounter between ultras and security forces in the city Wednesday, prompting authorities to close down schools and snap mobile internet services.

Police assisted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a cordon and search operation in Fateh Kadal in a downtown area of the city following a specific intelligence input about the presence of militants there, a senior police official said.

"Cordon was laid in the early hours following specific intelligence input.

Three militants, including Mehrauddin Bangroo, were killed in the encounter," Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Swayam Prakash Pani said.

The other two militants have been identified as Fahad Waza and over ground worker Rayees, son of the house owner where the encounter took place.

The IGP said Bangroo was involved in several killings in Srinagar and was the key coordinator for the Lashkar in the city.

"Bangroo's elimination is an important achievement for security forces," Pani added.

Giving details of the operation, police officials said a siege was laid around the house where the militants were hiding.

"As soon as the police barged inside the house, the policemen came under a heavy barrage of firing from the militants, resulting in injuries to one jawan, who succumbed later," the officials said.

They said the security forces responded to the firing of militants in equal measure and in the heavy exchange of fire, the house, where the ultras were hiding, got destroyed.

"The militants managed to run out of the house and tried to enter into an adjacent house, but were killed in the street," they added.

The policeman killed during the operation was identified as constable Kamal Kishore.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held for the slain policeman at the District Police Line here before his mortal remains were sent to his native place.

The district administration has closed all schools and educational institution in the city as a precautionary measure and internet services on mobile have also been snapped.

Meanwhile, clashes broke out in several parts of the old city after the encounter as miscreants pelted stones at the security forces, the officials said.

They said curfew has been imposed in some pockets of the city to maintain law and order
