Do not spread rumors about encounter and alleged terrorist leaders trapped/killed. That will complicate the situation for forces in ground
Some are constantly tracked but not killed to get the full picture, they help a lot in tracking down the organization, sometimes tracking is lost and they are saved before pressing the kill button. A few (rare) may collaborate to get enemies killed.
Killing of high value target is needed to boost up morale of forces and demotivate terrorists who got lucky in past ambush. Also helps in putting these petty thugs into place instead of becoming larger than life icon for most drug addict Kashmiri youth.
Some action is needed to pacify the country and restore the superiority of armed forces after some unfortunate event.
5 terrorists killed. Naikoo killed first official confirmation....
Naiko was considered as moderate among local Kahmiri militants who are more radical Islamists. He was one of few militant leaders who wanted Kashmiri pundits returned. He was also against this new Pakistani terror front/rebrand TRF, and Hizbul under his command was fighting against supposed TRF, who want Hizbul cadets defect to them. There was a competition between militant fractions for new recruits.
Probably agencies had information on him for some time and made tactical decision not to kill him for the time being, to exploit militant infighting. May be death of high ranking army officers changed those calculations.
Have anyone seen this footage before? Reportedly from today's encounter. Cannot confirm though.
