LCA Tejas Mk1 & Mk1A - News and discussions

Looks very yummy though. Just like a samosa 👀
Or a Dagger depends on the way you look.
It may not be the most sophisticated piece of equipment in the globe but it’s our Fighter equivalent of Maruti Suzuki 800.
It’s a paradigm shift in Indian Aerospace Industry.
It uses most modern practice of aviation manufacturing and sufficiently modern sub systems like Radars, Avionics, SPJs,Sensor Package, HMD and Weapons.

Although weapon choices is not as broad as Chinese but still sufficient and fairly potent IMO to do the routine jobs.

It’s the platform we are using to introduce all our subsystems and weapons like LPI AESA, Modern Air breathing AAM, AAM with dual pulse motor and dual seeker heads and two way datalink , our own MAWS and SPJs , ALCMs and a lot of small but incremental upgrades.
You can say that it’s a lot of Daydreaming or as usual I’m talking big. But it’s what it is. MK1 was the First step of this LCA/MWF program. We are in second phase aka MK1 A
Manufacturing fuselage and composit body and assembling subsystems was never the goal which HAL is doing since almost a century. Even the first aircraft the newly formed PAF flew was manufactured in very same HAL

@randomradio @Ashwin and anyone.

What is the quick reaction engine start time of tejas compared to other jets in the inventory?

Also I have heard from a former pilot mig21 podcast can cold start its engines by the technician on the ground way before the pilot is strapped in the cocpit.

Can tejas do that? And material on it?

Mig21 could do it as it had the intake in the nose. Tejas has intakes on the side and when the ladder is attached for pilot to get into the cockpit and strap on, the engine can't be started as it will suck in the technician on the ladder.

Should take up to 2 min, the same as any other single engine.

Yep. As Vstol has already mentioned, the Mig-21 can do that, but the Tejas cannot. It's actually why the Mig-21's QRA time is entirely unmatched by any other operational fighter jet today.

If an MKI/Rafale/Typhoon/Mig-29 and Mig-21 are assigned for QRA at the same time, by the time the twin-engine jet takes off, the Mig-21 is already engaging the enemy.

the shortest scramble time ever of any jet fighter was that of Gnat. From siren to take off just 45 seconds. The pilot could just jump into the cockpit without the need of a ladder and ask for engine start as it had engine which started using compressed air and reached idling RPM in less than 30 seconds and the pilot in the meantime would strap up in the ejection seat and be ready to open throttle for take off.

So does this mean that MIG 21 is our NECESSITY , and if it is so we will be at a disadvantage after the last MIG 21 BISON is retired

By the way , suppose if 40 IAF planes
Take off from Bhuj to Srinagar , at once , Will PAF send F16s or F 7PG or JF 17s

Losing the time advantage is bad. But, at the same time, the LCA replacement is technologically superior and can engage from greater range than the Mig-21 if necessary.

Plus we will have CAP in the air during times of trouble, like the M2000 and MKI on Feb 27th.

They will send everything up. That question is far too general to answer specifically.

So F16 and Eurofighter can also do that ?

F16 ?
