Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning and F-22 'Raptor' : News & Discussion

Colombia seems to have preselected 16 rafales for 3 US billion dollars
stay tuned

16 rafales 3 billions US dollars
16 F-35 5 billions US dollars
The Rafale is dearer than the F-35, say France and country competitions. It is in purchase price and sustainment. Do you think your headline posts have any value? Other than showing there are other things in the headline number.

I hope you are thanking the US CAATSA, for the potential sale.

The budget needed to buy F-35 is more or less twice the budget for rafale ... You can try to invok gods or super heros to change this evidence. Good luck.

IAF grounds all it's 11x F-35B variants due to a crash in the US of a similar model during manoeuvring test exercises to check it's hovering capabilities conducted by LM , pending a full on check of all systems & sub systems before resumption of active service by these birds.

I mean the recurrence of so many problems with the Lightnings across air forces in the world isn't even a joke anymore .

If a conflict over Taiwan breaks out right now I suppose the Lightnings would be gracing the hangars in Japan & RoK with their EODAS & EA switched on .

After all it can function successfully thousands of kms away . And then there's the secret ingredient - E virus like Stuxnet too , isn't it sweetie ?

A classic example of brain damaged ex American Football players with a trailer tramp background reaching the top & running state of the art futuristic military programs ( into the ground ) at DARPA , USAF , USMC , USN ,LM , NG , DoD etc .

This had to happen sweetie . Now the Aussies , not the brightest of bulbs out there , are on the lookout for what may well be a replacement for the Lightnings when it's not even been properly inducted.

Going by ever postponed LM schedules , the latest being 2030 when the Lightnings finally gets a new engine all those pesky upgrades & finally finally it gets certified with the FOC & that's still not a certainty but a big if....

Meanwhile the Aussies while not exactly being overtly critical are definitely not interested in considering you anymore for future procurements .

Seems to me the Lightnings & the whole Lightning saga from the FOC & upgrades to it's flight per hour cost to it's maintenance would mark the complete shattering of trust in US made fighters among your allies. Sets the stage for other vendors to fill in the vaccum
.

Le Francais & ze Germans must be salivating at the prospect as will the gooks , dagos & the stiff upper lipped repressed cousins of yours from across the Atlantic.

Please excuse mein pet monkey she gets worked up over click bait.

btw how many stealth fighters does India fly?

If the chatter"s started , things would follow . We're discussing Australia sweetie , not India. Third world nations like us see nations like the US & Australia buy Lightnings & develop haemorrhoids maintaining them paying for their upkeep bleeding thru their rear . We say to ourselves if we've to get conned like this , we might as well develop our own 5th Gen FA & con ourselves. That's what the Chinese & Russians did too .

The F-35 is so bad. They say we are buying another 24. To be announced early this year.
Well pops you know the Aussies better than most here . Unfortunately for you so does the UK & US . Hence Auckus where you end up probably financing - partially or fully ( I'm betting on the latter ) UK's next gen SSBNs or SSNs or both.

You see , If ever there was intelligence to be displayed in arriving at a decision , I think you'd be the first to admit the Aussies would arrive at the opposite decision.

The F-35 is an idiot detector
In the end, in its current incarnation, despite all the hype, the F-35 has not lived up to the notion of a multi-purpose fighter, and indeed has proven not to be a fighter at all. Indeed, it cannot be an air superiority aircraft, let alone a dominance aircraft, and it cannot function as a system of systems in a coalition of opportunity, due to its closed nature and proprietary systems, and worse, it is not even a catastrophic event protection vehicle.
