Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning and F-22 'Raptor' : News & Discussion

Helium Neon lasers won't be able to see that far, they also tend to be quite heavy and will pump out a nice exhaust plume as well as requiring chemical fuel. And infra-red rays (300GHz-430THz) tend not to penetrate solid objects very well.

THz is IR not microwave. Photonic radars still emit RF at the over the same frequency ranges as normal radar, but use lasers internally to more accurately analyse the received pattern, supposedly.

It's hugely unlikely that Russia will be ahead in anything electronic.

I wouldn't waste your time countering. It's just a frog article saying the Rafale is the best in the world and 5th gen is rubbish. There will be another nonsense article tomorrow. We have to put up with this until 2050/FCAS or something similar is built. Then all this will be forgotten. Their next gen will have more stealth and invisibility than rubbish 5th gen

It's one of the main 5 eyes sensors. HF is actually low frequency.

Australia also leads the world in the High Frequency technologies at the heart of the Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN). Located across Australia, JORN’s Over the Horizon (OTHR) technology provides the first and furthest line of sight, surveillance and radar warning and there is enormous scope to accelerate this capability, something our allies are also exploring.

Wouldn't bet on that for the B-21 or NGAD.

HF radars have been around since Chain Home >80 years ago.

You're right for B21 (as B2) because of the big wingspan
NGAD is a fighter, so except if it is a fighter with the size of a heavy bomber  for me a low band radar will remain effective.

The larger B2 and I would think the B21, is actually harder to detect. Physics is funny. Everything can be detected. It's just a matter at what range and can you target it..

F-35A capability exceeds expectations as full operational status nears

The F-35 has been performing well against current legacy fighters such as the F-15 and F-16 in major international exercises – including a recent Red Flag in the US, where American F-35As claimed more than 20 aircraft “shot down” for every F-35 lost. In reality, this kill ratio is understood to be a great deal higher than publicly acknowledged.

Lol, so from F-22's 144:1 or near perfect 100:0 record, we've come to 20:1 ratio for F-35 in USAF's own exercise. And yet they think F-35 is invincible in a real war against peer enemy. @_Anonymous_ kindly give some consolation to your sweetie, lolz.
The stats the F-35 had in 2018 block 3F, at red flag, is available on google. Even 10:1 would decimate another airforce.

When the F-35 was thought of. They estimated a 4:1 LER, which was wonderful. Then it went to 6:1. You don't think they are happy with a conservative, demonstrated 'more than' 20:1 in 2018 3F configuration?

Standalone 20:1 ratio is very impressive, but....after being constantly told that 4th gen just die in front of VLO and that Raptor is literally invincible at Red Flag vs other US 4th gen fighters, Lightning 2's 20:1 or slightly more kill ratio against US 4th gen is a warning sign to USAF/USN/USMC. They need to wake up.

Unlike US, there are plenty of other nations with very advance 4++ gen fighters like Rafale, Typhoon, Gripen, J-10, Su-30M/SME/Su-35 etc. Forget about 20:1 or even 10:1 against them.

In a real shooting war that 20:1 ratio doesn't inspire confidence if your near future enemy is going to be J-20B/J-16/J-10. Without Raptor USAF is going to get clobbered. Period.

'Slightly more' shows that you are uninformed of the number and too lazy to google. The rest is just as uninformed opinion.
Yet you use the F-22 144:1 as something to be valued. When was it and what was it against? I smell hypocrisy

And that's only when the f-35 could go in the sky, 15h/month. 98% of the time the f-35 can be used to make BBQ in the sun, or is in a hangard waiting to be repaired.

Sweetie's tender hairless culo's much more abused in here than Trump was or is out in the real world. Hence , Sweetie's totally lost the stomach for a fight.

You should've seen sweetie when sweetie first made appearance out here nearly 2 yrs ago . Sweetie was very fiesty & took every such put down against the Lightning or any other FA of the US very personally defending it as if sweetie's life depended on it . Sweetie was almost functioning as the unofficial spokesperson of LM Boeing DoD etc out here .

Sweetie single handedly faced down le Francais here . Then sweetie had the misfortune of running that motor mouth far too often for sweetie's own good & running into me . Sweetie's still not recovered from the ghastly experience . It's called taming of the shrew. Shakespeare even wrote a very popular play on the whole episode .

Ja , sweetie ? @Innominate
