Rafale DH/EH of Indian Air Force : News and Discussions

Sir , you have talked about Gagan Shakti Sorties , But have you also Ever Considered the Losses that IAF would face in the ABSENCE of RAFALE

Rafale , Meteor and Spectra would do for us what Su 30 will otherwise Have to do after suffering losses and Casualties

Rafale would be used for Achieving Complete Air Superiority because it would knock out the AWACS and its Escorts

If we devote 18 Rafales of Ambala against PAF and they manage to down 36 PAF planes on Day 1 , the battle is over

Thereafter These 18 Rafales can also be deployed against China
Rafale is really a capable fighter, PM himself aware about its importance, some random guys in defense forums are bashing rafale for no reason.

Between, Rafale cannot take down AWACS easily, since most of the awacs platforms will be well with in the safety homeland airspace and no bvr exist today with ultra engagement range. You need a pair of mig31s to do rhat i beleive. Fly high with immense speed, it can reach near to an awacs immediately and finish it off the job. Mig31s are designed to target such platforms.

Maybe you are out of the loop. Frenchy is claiming 36 rafale = 126 MMRCA requirement.

Rafale will be used for Offensive Fighter Sweeps ie Seeking out and destroying the Enemy Fighters which are on CAP or BAR CAP or as Fighter escorts

Once a Fighter escort has been targetted , it will Run Away for its safety leaving the AWACS alone

Then A Sukhoi can pounce on it at Mach 2 speed

A 2 Million USD Priced Meteor will knock out a 50 million dollar Fighter

We need 100 plus Rafales for a Two Front War

He is incorrect there. The expectation is just 50% ToT. As long as any contender meets 50% ToT standards, it's all well and good for them. But Dassault is offering 70% on their own. MoD is not going to provide some extra concessions beyond what the points table provides.

Most of the points will be going towards tech specs as usual anyway.

I have a question on simulators. How good are Rafale simulators?

For ex: Can a pilot (who passed intermediate jet trainer course) learn 80% of Rafale skills in simulator thereby reducing the time of Rafale, and reducing wear and tear?

What all can a pilot learn in simulator Vs flying the actual Rafale?
full motin simulatirs are so good that now a person can come out of simulator and get into the cockpit of an aircraft and fly it. But he will need time on real aircraft to get fully trained.

Yes, to be educated the simulator is enough, but to be trained you need real flights.
The aim of training is to react well in an emergency and despite the stress and in a simulator there is no stress. You have to be confronted with delicate situations frequently to be really well trained.

SCALP

If we have to take out any HVT like Enemy Radars and SAM batteries , then is it possible to use a Combination of SCALP and Brahmos or SCALP and a Rudra 1 Anti Radiation missile

Underground targets will need Brahmos and ballistic missiles. Overground targets will need PGMs, SCALPs and ARMs.

I have no clue about its penetration capabilities, so I didn't include it. There's the 1000Kg AASM as well.

Terminal effectiveness
Provided by high final dive and tandem warhead precursor charge and a large explosive/kinetic energy penetrator. Warhead detonation options include airbust, impact and penetrative modes

The Scalp is manufactured by European defence giant MBDA. Designated as the Storm Shadow by the UK, the Scalp is capable of destroying "high-value fixed or stationary targets such as hardened bunkers or key infrastructure", according to MBDA.
