S-400 'Triumf' News & Discussion

Ah! Thanks. Then would it be avalod to say that project kusha incorporates both design philosophy? Especially with wider number of platform?
I'd be surprised if that were the case, especially after the experience DRDO gained from the MRSAM prog. Afaik, Kusha is modeled on the B-8ER concept. But we'll have to wait for the schematics/conops for Kusha to be revealed.

LCA orders are already set, so IAF might not get the green light for another fighter aircraft order. Yes, the next purchase could be an S 400/S 500. IMO, we should consider, only getting additional 40N6 missiles and TELs for closer deployment to LOC and LAC.

Regarding the S 500, we need to check what additional features it offers over the S 400 w.r.t.stealth aircraft, which will be our next challenge. The indigenous hypersonic missile defense project will be there... so we don't need the S-500 only for HMD.

Certain things does not add up in that report.

- If a G2G deal , usually all are off the shelf buy ?

- Since its Russia, can be local mfg but 3 vs 2 split & only 2 units local mfg when about 5 other units were also off the shelf ?

- what pvt company would set up shop for building just 2 units order ?

- traditionally its the Govt PSU who have received G2G agreed share of local mfg work, right? BEL BDL would let go to pvt company without a fight?

- it is possible repeat order promise to get timely delivery & large share, but ever bought more from Russia without previous delivery completion ?

These are among the many other obvious unanswered aspects of this supposed deal.

Talks are still ongoing regarding Su-57 and additional S-400s. The talks would conclude before Putin's visit and then only it'll come out in public.

2 more squadrons was the earlier speculation, now we're in talks for 5 more though nothing is set in stone at the moment. Both Su-57 and additional S-400 decision has been made but the exact number and form of the deal is still under consideration with the Russians. Will be finalised before Putin's visit.

You are best thing on this forum when it comes to scoops. You remind us of Aashish. I come to this forum to read your’s and Vstol Jockeys messages mainly.

Remaining 2 squadrons to be delivered next year.

3 more squadrons in negotiations.

If true, this looks like another backdoor deal similar to LMM (no competitive trials). Pantsir variants have fared poorly in stopping Ukranian drone attacks against Russian towns and cities. Wonder what MoD thinks of that?
they’re trying to counter low RCS drones & standoff munitions with a sensor setup that’s not built for that game....... Pantsir search radar is S-band, which already struggles to pick up VLO or micro UAV signatures, so even when it does get a hit, it’s usually late & with shaky track quality...... Then you’ve got the turret architecture..... the whole damn module has to slew around just to bring the narrow beam FCR onto that tiny target...... meaning the system wastes precious seconds just trying to “burn through” one direction while everything else stays blind......In a multi-axis saturation attack, that’s basically a death sentence ........your supposedly layered air defense system turns into a one-target-at-a-time whack-a-mole machine negating your advantage in missile numbers & the drones don’t even need to be stealthy, just small and coming from everywhere at once.

Other than reaction time, accuracy is also reportedly a problem with Pantsir. There's even a video floating on the internet where a Syrian Pantsir was shown getting shot at point blank range by the Israelis.

In Russian service, Pantsir is often paired with Tor point defence systems which India doesn't have. Russia would ideally like us to buy both for adequate coverage.

Why don't they place large chunk order's for ak630M, integrated it atulya ADFCR or AMAR radars, and land based VLSRSAM system, there's already private player's who can make vertical launch unit for the missile, that would be apt for base defence,
