I have wondered. I thought the big lesson on n1 vs Saturn 5 was that too many engines f**k things up. Of course Elon knows what he's doing but doesn't Starship stage 1 have waayyyy too many engines for comfort?

Well the launch was a success, it was never supposed to do anymore than take-off successfully on the first attempt. I guess there are pros and cons of having many engines. Provided you have excess thrust, you can afford to lose a few engines through failure, whereas if you only have 4, not so much.
 
Next Falcon Heavy for launch on 27 April 2023, note this mission do not reuse booster because the rocket is carrying three com-satellites to GEO.
