Sukhoi Su-30MKI

The upgraded radar would likely be the NIIP N035 Irbis E (Snow Leopard), a 20 kW class steerable hybrid ESA radar fitted on the Su-35. At full power, the radar can detect a F-35 at a distance of 58-km (36-mi.). In tracking mode the distance drops to 29km.

Thank you ! So the power requirement of peak output by this radar is 4 times the current one(5 KW to 20 KW), moreover there would be an increment in power requirement for avionics too. So the question is which engine we are looking for because the news did not mention anything about engine?

Most likely the Saturn AL 31 thought India should look at the AL 41 Fs for the super sukhoi ipgrade

if AL 31 then how are we going to manage the power requirement?
KW requirement can be easily met by existing engines just by upgrading the GCUs for both DC and AC power. Fighter Jets are never starving for power, on contrary, the GCU and generator are sized to just provide adequate power and keep their weight and footprint smaller. Adding power is quite simple, change in the generator, GCU modules, and power harness and connector change, which are already completely dis-assembled for overhaul anyways.

The engine should most likely be the 117S, the same thing that's on the Su-35.

The Russians are supposed to finish testing on their own as well.

R-77-1 ,K77m,R37M.
Lets see if it gets ols-35 irst tracker of su-35 or the new one from su57.

India planning to add Spice in Su 30 mki on it's own.

I think something must have happened for all the integrations done alone by India with out Russian consent.

Like aashish told long back.
Something happened that now we are changing it bit by bit .

Significant, this. IAF Eastern Command begins big fighter exercise across 6 eastern civil airports with Su-30 & Hawk Mk.132s. To 'familiarise IAF crews with flying at busy airfields' co-located with civil airports, including Guwahati, Kolkata, Imphal, Pasighat, Dimapur and Andal.

New Delhi (Sputnik): While terming India an “exclusive strategic defence partner”, Russian Defence Minister General Sergey Shoigu reaffirmed his country’s commitment to extending all possible support in enhancing India’s defence capabilities, including cooperation in advanced and cutting-edge technology.

Russia has agreed to assist India on upgrading its formidable fleet of Su-30MKI jets with advanced weapons and avionics, which will lend the aircraft unmatched stealth features.

As per a consensus reached at the 19th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC) meeting, Russia will provide support in developing a prototype at a state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) facility, industry sources said.

“The Su-30 MKI upgrade programme will start soon", sources said without revealing details about the programme.

Sputnik had reported in the recent past that the entire fleet of 272 fighter jets will be upgraded and equipped with advanced weapons systems such as the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, the R-27P high-range infrared homing system, and Russian air-to-air missiles.

The 19th IRIGC-M&MTC meeting was co-chaired by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Russian counterpart General Sergey Shoigu on Wednesday.

“The Russian defence minister underlined Moscow’s commitment to extend all possible support in enhancing India’s defence capabilities, including cooperation in advanced and cutting-edge technology", the Indian Defence Ministry said it in a statement.

The Russian side also affirmed its readiness to operationalise the joint venture lndo-Russia Rifles Private Limited for the manufacture of world class Kalashnikov AK 203 rifles in India.

The two countries also agreed to conclude a logistical support agreement that will provide immense help in servicing equipment at various locations in Russia.

The much-anticipated agreement will provide immense support to the Indian Armed Forces as around 70% of equipment and platforms like warships, submarines, fighter jets, and tanks are of Russian-origin.

“The ministers directed the respective teams to work closely for early conclusion of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Agreement on Reciprocal Logistics Support", the Indian Defence Ministry said.

Russia has also agreed to India’s request to constitute specific working groups for after-sales support of key defence platforms.

Russia to Assist India in Developing Country Specific Super Sukhoi Prototype

This is almost confirming India to do it indegeniously ..

While Russia planning to push more of its systems.

And Indian efforts are on the way to succeed.

We may see best of both worlds in Super Sukhoi.

Indian Government Justifies Higher Cost of Locally-Developed Su-30s

Disagreeing with the opposition's interpretation of an audit report that found that Su-30 fighter jets supplied to the Indian Air Force by the local firm HAL are costlier that those supplied by the Russian OEM, the India government has clarified that the version being locally manufactured have been modified for enhanced operational capability.

New Delhi (Sputnik) — India's defence ministry has listed several reasons for the higher costs of the Su-30 fighter jets supplied to the Indian Air Force (IAF) from the local production line, in comparison to those supplied directly by the original Russian manufacturer.

Subhash Bhamre, India's Minister of State for Defence, said on Wednesday that the foremost reason for the higher cost is that the specifications of the Russian SU-30 and indigenously manufactured SU-30MKI are not the same; hence, a one to one comparison of cost may not be appropriate.

State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is currently producing the Su-30MKI at a flyaway cost of around $62 million per aircraft, which is around $22 million higher than the Su-30 jet supplied by Russia.

"Additional modifications are incorporated in the indigenous Su-30MKI to enhance the operational capability and to suit Indian Air Force (IAF) requirements. Owing to the low volume of production of the Indian SU-30 MKI as compared to the —Russian SU-30, economies of scale come into play," Minister Subhash Bhamre argued while replying to a query raised by a fellow parliamentarian.

Bhamre added that being a Transfer of Technology (ToT) programme, the total cost also involves payment of license fee to the Russian side.

HAL imports raw materials and proprietary components from Russian firms and assembles them at its production facility in Nasik. HAL is presently assembling the last 23 Su-30MKI on order from the Ministry of Defence.

"Import of raw materials and proprietary components from Russia involves dependency on Russian Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for the offered kit costs, which are not proportionate with the kit contents," Bhamre added.

The twin-seater, twin-engine Su-30MKI, developed by Russian aircraft maker Sukhoi and license-built in India, constitutes the backbone of the IAF. While the first 50 Su-30 aircraft were built in Russia, over 200 fighter jets were assembled in India.

The Indian defence ministry has also argued that indigenous manufacturing will create advanced skill sets in the country, a step towards self-reliance.

"Indigenous manufacturing will result in a lower life cycle cost and reduced dependency on OEM on repair and maintenance and faster turn-around time and quick support to IAF bases," Minister Bhamre further added.

Last year, HAL had offered to produce 40 additional Su-30MKI for the IAF at much a much lower court, but India turned down the offer.

"Since the facilities are indigenously established, future production supplies are likely to be cheaper if a new order for bulk production is placed on HAL," Bhamre concluded.
