An Israeli financial news publication on Sunday reported that the Indian Army had awarded a contract worth $127 million to an Israeli company for the supply of tactical radio systems. Elbit Systems, a privately owned Israeli defence company, had announced the contract on its website on Sunday. However, it did not specify the customer, a practice common with other Israeli defence contractors also.
The Elbit press release stated, “It was awarded a $127 million contract to supply vehicular tactical radio systems to the army of a country in South Asia. The contract will be performed over a three-year period. The radios to be supplied will include several configurations for integration on board a range of armored fighting vehicles and tanks at the battalion and company levels.”
Globes, an Israeli financial publication, reported, “Elbit did not mention to which country the tactical radios will be sold but market sources say that it is to India.”

In 2004, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Tadiran Communications, which subsequently merged with Elbit, had won an Indian Army order worth $113 million for radio equipment to be mounted on tanks and other platforms.
In July 2018, the Defence Acquisition Council cleared a ‘repeat’ order for 4,900 Tadiran radio sets for the T-72 and T-90 tanks of the Indian Army.
In addition to radio equipment, Elbit is also seeking to supply unmanned aerial vehicles to the Indian military.
In December 2018, Elbit, in partnership with the Adani Group, opened a “50,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility” in Hyderabad to manufacture UAVs. The facility is described as the first such factory outside of Israel meant for the manufacture of Elbit’s Hermes 900 long-endurance UAV.

OFB ready with new tank shell before Army changes target

Nagpur : The Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) has come up with an enhanced version of Russian T-90 tank ammunition even before the Army changes its mind saying it wants a better product that the factories are supplying now.
The OFB has already got orders from the Army to supply 125mm fin-stabilized armour-piercing discarding stabot (FSAPDS) shells. The current version has a capacity to pierce into steel plates of 460mm thickness that are put on the enemy tanks. Sensing that the Army may soon demand a higher penetration, the OFB has a developed an ammunition that can rip into steel of over 500mm thickness. This comes at a time when the government is considering a case to corporatize the OFB with view to make it more competitive.
The OFB has recently finished supplying over 10,000 tank shells with 460mm piercing capacity. In a bid to continue getting indents, it has now come up with shells having piercing capacity of much beyond 500mm, said sources. Internal trials have been completed over a month ago and the product would be put up before the Army for its final appraisal. The production process takes place in ordnance factories across Vidarbha too.
Even though T-90 tanks have been purchased much earlier, the OFB got the transfer of technology (ToT) for making 125mm FSAPDS shells in 2015-16 from the Russian original equipment maker (OEM).
In line with the original requirement of 460mm capacity, the OFB has supplied over 10,000 shells made out of semi-knocked down material received from Russia. It is gearing up to make a similar number of shells out of completely knocked down (CKD) material. In the meantime, the Army also purchased over 90,000 shells, also of 460mm capacity, directly from Russia.
Sources said even as there has been no official communication from the Army, it has been known through some of the communication and including minutes that the Army may soon change the requirement, said highly placed sources. As the Army has invited request for proposal (RFP), from a whole gamut of ammunition the 125mm FSAPDS rounds were dropped as the piercing capacity was changed to over 500mm from 460mm, said a source.
“If the Army now wants to change the standards, why should it have placed an order for 460mm at all? The Army has also purchased a sizeable quantity from Russian manufacturers,” said a source.
Both T-90 and T-72 tanks, also purchased from Russia, use same ammunition. Even as the FSAPDS shell is also used in the T-72 tanks, the design made by the DRDO could not make its way into the Army. The production of the DRDO-designed shells was stopped nearly a decade ago following an accident, said a source.

All our T-90s need to be upgraded with a new gun that can fire rounds that can penetrate 750-1000mm. 500mm is already 40 years old.
You need T90 ms upgrade for svinets 2 round with new gun for 750 mm at 2 km.With 500 mm you are either looking at taking out t55 derivatives at max range ..or modern tanks only at much closer ranges or from flank or rear.Enough for Pakistanis..not enough for chinese composite armour ty96g or ty99.
Our current main shell is the Mango, which can penetrate only 450mm at 2000m. We are currently using the 2A46M gun, which can only fire small shells like the Mango.
2A46M5. It's a new T-90 gun based on the 2A46M. It has a bigger autoloader, so you can carry bigger shells like the Svinets, which can penetrate 750mm. Our T-90MS will come with this gun, but we are buying less than 500 of these.
2A82-1M. This is derived from the Armata's main gun. It carries the Vacuum, which can penetrate more than 900mm. This would be the best choice for our T-90s, but also will cost a lot of money. The Russians are upgrading the T-90 with this gun for their own purposes, it's called T-90M Proryv-3.
The 2A46M5 is the best choice while the 2A82-1M is a luxurious choice. Our best move would be to upgrade the 464 T-90MS package with the 2A82-1M and use the 2A46M5 for the rest of the fleet as an MLU package. This would practically double our firepower.

It seems the proryv 3 will be using same gun as t90ms.Reports of it usung armata gun were false.Armata gun requires too much space in hull for a t90.It has a different design philosophy than t series which employs classic russian design of low profile low visibility hull with angle based defence turret which inevitably leads to cramped spaces.
According to Western sources, it is 2A46M5. According to some Russian sources, it is 2A82.

Not all.But some of them already have started getting them.Numbers will depend upon progress of fmbt project and t90 acquisitions.
I remember that the first order was for some 250 tanks i think, then a order for around 1000 more tanks. So by 2023-24 we are looking for a fleet of 1600+/- T90, 200 Arjun Mk1/Mk1a, and 1200+/- T72 CIA atleast?
Plus what are the upgrades the present and future batches will get?
The Thermal Imaging assisted fire control system i think, then Israeli Navigation System. Desi Fire Suppression System. DRDO ERA MK2, V92S2 engine and related transmission. And anything else for sure?

You are right more or less about upgrades.Already licensed built versions use better era than kontakt5 which is a kanchan derivative.
Yes to both. 1000 T-72s will be getting the V92S2. Check post 3 on this thread for ERA. Fig 8 is the CIA.
