Transport Aircraft of IAF - C-130J, C-17 Globemaster, C295: Updates & Discussions

That's true. My point was that there exists a requirement for MTA too. And it shouldn't be brushed away.

Yeah, that's a separate requirement. It was originally meant to replace the An-32, but a transport in the 20T category is still necessary for carrying heavy weapons, like artillery guns.

To me it seems a fight between KC390 and Japanese C-2
YT content creator Defence Matrix holds that there are essentially 4 competitors viz : Airbus A-400 , LM C-130J , Kawasaki C-2 & EMBRAER KC-390 of which in terms of performance C-2 is the best followed by A-400 . C-130J though good , fitting in with our requirements , in service with us since nearly 2 decades & a trusted work horse is dated . KC-390 fits in perfectly with our requirements & our budget being ~ 85 m USD per unit as opposed to C-2 which is ~ 150 m USD .

Turboprops are mentioned just that more number of OEMs can be interested. Just my opinion.

Both KC390 and C2 seems an excellent option to me. RFI mentions Buy Indian, Buy IDDM or Buy & MII.

Although it's a very long shot but , Antonov or Ilyushin might also partner up with HAL for IDDM/Buy Indian category.

For C130J-30s, we should look to buy another 12 maybe, but thats it. ALGs along our China frontier is the only very significant place where it may have an operational advantage over something like our Il76 or KC390.

What's the difference between Buy Indian & IDDM ?

I very much doubt they're going down the route of development for this project. If it was to happen it'd have happened by now . It's been nearly 20 yrs since the RTA / MTA was launched . Nothing's moved since .

Further all Russian participation in future projects would be on a need basis which is to say it has to be either cutting edge technology or inaccessible . That line has long been drawn on Russian products & participation.

After Su-57 , if we ever go it for it , I doubt we'd ever see any Russian aircraft in our forces ever . Ditto for warships & SSKs. SSNs , SSGNs , Spy Submarines & SSBNs are a different matter .

I think all the contenders for the RFI for MTAs have a good enough service ceiling to operate out of those ALGs on the LAC , the only difference being the C-130Js have had the experience of it or are you suggesting the others aren't ruggedized enough for such a performance ?

Besides do you or anyone knows if any or all these contenders I've named holds the potential to be converted into RTAs meaning for civilian operations . If yes , what's the process & if not why not ? I ask coz our initial plan behind developing the RTAs with Russia was that it was to serve a dual purpose of meeting both civilian & military needs.

I wish KC390 + dozen second hand C 130J from UK.

Not the altitude, but just the ruggedness. Although you can say that we have seen C130s at DBO that's why. But if others have similar capability then that's a cookie for KC390.

Rocket engines , nuclear engineering stuff maybe. But more or less you are right.
