Pilots did a great job. They deserve a medal for landing this helicopter.
The ALH has been in service since the early 2000s and since then over 200 of them have been made. Under a dozen airframe losses have been experienced since then but some truly horrifying crashes HAVE occurred but remarkably few have been fatal

And who can forget this incident of an ALH roll over at a 17,000ft HLZ near Khanda post. That AAC crews were able to partly repair it in-situ and fly it out to a full airbase base speaks very very highly highly of both the AAC crews and the ALH’s maintainability pic.twitter.com/YJ4aaS7kS7

Whilst we wait for official confirmation of the cause of the crash today (will be many weeks/months) let’s remember that rotary-wing aviation is inherently dangerous, flying a low level sometimes barely meters from the ground often with terrain on all sides pic.twitter.com/rRrkFlcA3F

The ALH was India’s first attempt at an entirely indigenous helicopter and it has been an exceptional success that has directly led to the LCH and LUH (who share the same gear box designs). pic.twitter.com/BaXZrxk59Q

All HAL designed helicopters also have full dual channel fail safe redundant systems with crash resistant seats and onboard fire fighting system- this is a capability that isn’t even seen on the MI-17/V5s that currently are used to transport the Prime Minister of India

Great shots of an IAF Mi-17 airlifting an @AirbusHeli AS350 B3 Écureuil of private firm UT Air from the 11,500 feet high Kedarnath helipad where it had crash-landed. Transported it safely to Sahastradhara near Dehradun. pic.twitter.com/fiiQiNkK4d
