Ukraine - Russia Conflict

UK News: Only a few weeks of sunflower oil left in the UK, leading to a reduction in the production of chips.

The kind of news Paddy never links here. I half imagine Paddy informing us of some farticle declaring chips to be a health hazard with Parliament considering legislation limiting it's consumption. Isn't it so , Paddy ?

On the other hand you could always switch to olive oil . I'm sure the French would be delighted to assist you & cultivate your aesthetics for you see the French have always maintained there's no such thing as UK or US cuisine whereas French cuisine is both an art form & world famous & they aren't wrong you know .

I mean how exactly do you go about grading a nation's cuisine whose national dish is fish & chips or chicken tikka masala.

Another lot of western trophies of Russian servicemen. The APU officers fled, but kindly shared the instruction manual for the NLAW ATGM.

Yesterday, in the area of N. p. Novoselovka, the soldiers of the Armed Forces of the DPR destroyed a truck of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with personnel:

Russian Ruble sees huge gains against US dollar to even higher levels than pre-invasion — now at 72 rubles per dollar. On 8th of march, the ruble fell to 144 rubles per US dollar, in contrast.

Joe Biden said Ruble will reach 200 few days back.

The US wants to replace Russia in the European gas market

The US has just announced that it will deliver an additional 15 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Europe.

The United States was quick to push its pawns into the European natural gas supply arena when the first sanctions were imposed on Russia in the context of the war in Ukraine. The EU had made it clear that it wanted to free itself from its dependence on Russia for gas.

So, taking advantage of this major commercial opportunity, the US immediately announced that it was ready to deliver more LNG to Europe. A few days later, this seems to have been agreed as the European Union will receive 15 billion cubic metres of natural gas by the end of 2022. Europe is already receiving American LNG, mainly shale gas, with a catastrophic environmental record. But Brussels
[read: the EU] is prepared to turn a blind eye.

On paper, the announced quantity seems to be sufficient, but according to most specialists in the sector, American gas alone will never be able to replace Russian gas deliveries. For Philippe Chalmin - a professor of economic history - the problem is different: "The problem is not the supply of liquefied natural gas. The problem is that, over the next two or three years, Europe will have the capacity to receive LNG carriers, the ships that transport LNG, and then to re-gasify it. If we put all the regasification capacities that exist today in Europe together, we would only be able to replace about two thirds of our imports from Russia.

Most important of all , what are the costs of this entire exercise ? Is the EU willing to shoulder the extra burden ? Will the US subsidize it's oil & gas supplies to Europe ? What about the cost of products services & other commodities coming out of Europe ? How price competitive would they be in the global market ?

It's all very fine to parrot the line that the EU would cease to import Russian oil gas & coal . Like Paddy does at least 5 times a day out here much like how the Muslims his favourite religious group say their prayers 5 times a day.

Nobody's discussing the enormous costs it would come at . Certainly not simpletons like Paddy whose understanding of economics & finance is anyway outside his intellectual abilities & pay grade .

Come to think of it , I've yet to come across an Irish economist or an economist of Irish origin . Wonder if you have Paddy ? @BMD

Olive oil, rapeseed oil....
I think we both know that chips fried in any other oil lacks the distinctive flavour that comes with sunflower Oil . It's no wonder restaurants in UK are persisting with sunflower oil procuring it at great costs just to keep the sales going .
