Though it's not exactly overnight. It's been more like a long simmer since Ukraine (including Donbass and Crimea) voted for independence in 1991. This is largely because Russia always considered that Ukraine belongs to them, instead of belonging to its people. The Russians always despised the Ukrainians who they saw as backward yokels, calling them "khokhols". Just another ethnic minority to keep under their boots.

NATO kept politely asking Russia not to do it and that there would be sanctions if they did. Russia decided to do it anyway, thinking that West was weak and decadent and would just do some limp-wristed sanctions.
You mean to say nato ob was busy selling sugar packets & cigars on the sidewalks, while all the weapons in ukraine grew on trees as fruits.

in absentia was impeached by a vote in the Ukrainian parliament, following the legal procedures laid out in the Ukrainian Constitution for such things. Then there were elections.

Negotiations are only possible when both sides want it. What you are willfully blind to is that it's Russia who doesn't want to negotiate and who wants to continue the brutal war. Just look at the facts, for once: Putin planned a "special military operation" to seize Kyiv and install a puppet regime, it failed. Instead of calling it quit and going back home, Putin decided to go for a war of conquest in southern Ukraine. It again failed. Instead of calling it quit and going back home, Putin decided to annex the land they've grabbed so far and mobilize to turn it into a full-fledged war. And it will again fail, and instead of calling it quit and going back home, Putin will again escalate. Putin will kill, torture, and loot washing machine until the end of the world because he's too racist to accept that "khokhols" might not want to live under his heel, and he's too proud to admit he's sending Russia to the abyss.
. And we destroyed them. Here Russia attacked Ukrain to capture it complete, or atleast up to kyive. But now ran away from those areas and annexing a marginal part of their original plan. This is something like pakistani attack on us in 65.
