Ukraine - Russia Conflict

Explosions rang out for hours 💥 in Melitopol, the military base of the occupiers was destroyed

In temporarily occupied Donetsk. As reported by local Telegram channels, in the afternoon of January 8, explosions rang out at the metal rolling mill.

Well it looks like the first western MBT in Ukraine will be the Leopard 2A+

I'm pretty sure Leopard 2A+ are fine tanks way better than any tank being used in Ukraine war including T-90M but Finland and Poland are sure more than ready to give Ukraine their likely active Leopard2 fleet. What will Finland replace their Leopar2's with? M1A2 SEPv3? Poland is getting more M1A2 SEPv3 tanks and South Korean K2 tanks... I guess what I'm getting at is Western Euro nations with Leopard2's don't really think too highly of them?
If true, it's a corner in the west support.

While Russia focuses on Bakhmut, it's defensive lines around Kreminna are being thinned.

Pakistan to send massive weapons consignment to Ukraine

Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) is all sent to send 159 containers of 155mm artillery shells, M4A2 propelling bag charges, M82 primers, and PDM fuses to Ukraine. This massive haul will be shipped to Ukraine through Poland over the coming weeks

Karachi: Even as millions of people across Pakistan continue to struggle in dire misery due to a severe food shortage and worsening economic crisis, the country is all set to send another consignment of weapons and ammunition to help Ukraine fight the ongoing invasion by Russia.

According to a report by Indian Defence Research Wing (****), Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) is all sent to send 159 containers of 155mm artillery shells, M4A2 propelling bag charges, M82 primers, and PDM fuses to Ukraine. This massive haul will be shipped to Ukraine through Poland over the coming weeks.

The Economic Times reported that Project Shipping – a Pakistani shipping and brokerage firm – will transport the consignment from the Karachi Port to the Gdansk Port in Poland later this month with a ship named BBC Vesuvius.

This move by Pakistan comes even as it continues to ignore requests for ammunition and weapons from Russia. According to media reports, western countries will help Pakistan with supplies and the upgradation of some of its Western military equipment in exchange for assistance to Ukraine.

The military assistance that Pakistan may receive includes Ukrainian expertise to upgrade its Mi-17 helicopters.

Pakistan has had deep military and industrial ties with Ukraine in the past. The two countries have shared a close relationship in the defence sector since Ukraine gained independence by breaking away from the erstwhile Soviet Union in 1991.

Ukraine had sold weapons and military equipment worth nearly $1.6 billion to Pakistan between 1991 and 2020. These include more than 320 T-80UD tanks along with a fully formed ecosystem for their maintainence, usage, ammunition and spare parts.

If reports are to be believed, Pakistan has also clinched a deal woth $85.6 million with Ukraine for repair and maintenance of its fleet of T-80UD tanks.

Tricastin: EDF forced to shut down a nuclear reactor
Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux

Since 23 December, EDF has stopped the N°4 reactor of its Tricastin power station. The reason: a too weak demand for electricity. :ROFLMAO:

A rare phenomenon in winter

The demand for electricity varies permanently and EDF adapts its production continuously, in particular by lowering the operating power of its nuclear reactors. A reactor can operate at only 50% of its capacity, for example. It is rarer for a reactor to be shut down and even rarer in winter. In 2022, the Tricastin plant shut down reactors twice in June and August. However, in the Drôme and Ardèche since December, it has already happened twice: in mid-December, one of the reactors at the Cruas-Meysse plant was shut down. It is now the case with reactor N°4 of the Tricastin power station. It is due to restart on Monday 9 January.

Reactors decoupled from the grid

When it comes to adapting production to consumption, the reactor is not shut down like for a fuel refill or a maintenance programme. It's a bit like a car: it doesn't move any more but the engine stays running. The advantage is that the restart is faster, in eight hours, EDF assures.

Very mild temperatures

The demand in electricity is weak essentially because this beginning of winter is very soft with average temperatures well above the season averages. However, electric heating can represent up to 40% of electricity consumption in France in winter. This is not the case at present. On 5 January, France consumed 60 gigawatts of electricity compared to 86 on the same date in 2021.

And Putin who thought he could launch an energy war against Europe! God is with us!
