This is how an OEM maximizes revenue from a platform. They ask for $100 million just to integrate a weapon system.

The US did ask for 368 billion Australian dollars just to park their nuclear submarines in Australia. :D

"Another major deal with France will be the Rs 38,000 crore one for three additional Scorpene diesel-electric submarines, with air-independent propulsion (AIP) for longer underwater endurance, to be built at the Mumbai-based Mazagon Docks (MDL)."

Do we know if the +3 Scorpenes will come with DRDO AIP from the get go?

I think I heard somewhere that they too would only receive it as part of a mid-life update.

The asking price is insane. They are milking the most before we become self reliant. This will be the last submarine import from France.

Updates on the Scorpene with NMRL-Thermax-L&T PAFC: -
1. Order placed for 1 x PAFC Unit by Mazagon Dock Ltd.
2. INS Kalavari goes into NR (Nominal Refit) somewhere in 2026.
3. NR initially planned for 24 months but may take up to 36 months if integration challenges crop up.
4. Naval Group is providing integration consultancy during the NR process and the length of the submarine will increase by 7 metres.
5. The existing vessels will be fitted with the PAFC AIP as per their individual NR schedules.
6. The 3 new Scorpenes built by MDL will be stretch versions from the outset and will be equipped by the same PAFC AIP.
