Only question is, does it favour west to sanction us the way they did Russia? The exact risks were present when we tested the nuclear bomb — we did sustain and pull through. The only reason we did was that we prioritised what’s important and was ready to compromise with what’s not. Another factor is that, given the current situation, west will need a power to rely on in Asia, with “Goons for hire” being gone, what’s US’s best bet against China?
Sanctioning India will give them the leverage needed for their goons-for-hire program.
Make India a strong ally that can help fight China or make India a weak opponent as an enticing bait to distract China.
A strong independent India is unacceptable to both. That's my thinking.
One more thing to think about, is 7 years going to be enough for us to be ready / self-reliant? We, as a nation, have a tendency to only act when our collective a*ses are the line, until that happens, we tend to have a lackadaisical approach to almost everything. A decision to knock the Pakistan problem out and the problems that come with it might act as the much needed impetus for our nation to start acting the way it ideally should by cutting out all the unwanted and unwarranted beurocracy and optimising for what’s truly needed.
As per economists, the rupee will stabilize in a few years and start strengthening from the next decade. Our oil imports are gonna plateau by then as well. I suppose gold will become our largest import in time.
Technologically, we are getting to where we want to be in the next few years, like semiconductors, electronics, and energy. We already have AI-related sanctions for Nvidia's chips so that's not gonna change anytime soon.
With a more self-suffcient economy and alternative sources of energy, the impact of sanctions will be negligible. Any sanctions won't be UNSC-backed 'cause of Russia, and by 2032, our financial dependence on the West will be mutually destructive to each other.
As for practical changes, like current laws, the constitution, and bureaucracy, we need Modi to get a supermajority in 2029 rather than a war.
Pakistan being stupid is inevitable. They are under pressure from their proxies to act, so let's see where it goes. While we may not want war, we are still gonna have to sail where the wind blows.
