Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted two consecutive successful flight-tests of Pralay missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Odisha on July 28 & 29, 2025. The flight tests were carried out as a part of User Evaluation Trials to validate the maximum and minimum range capability of the missile system. The missiles precisely followed the intended trajectory and reached the target point with pin-point accuracy meeting all the test objectives. All subsystems performed as per expectations, which were verified using test data captured by various tracking sensors deployed by Integrated Test Range (ITR) including instruments deployed on ship positioned near the designated impact point.

Pralay is an indigenously-developed solid propellant quasi-ballistic missile employing state-of-the-art guidance and navigation to ensure high precision. The missile is capable of carrying multiple types of warheads against various targets. The system has been developed by Research Centre Imarat in collaboration other DRDO labs - Defence Research & Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research & Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Research & Development Establishment (Engineers) and ITR etc; industry partners - Bharat Dynamics Limited & Bharat Electronics Limited and many other industries and MSMEs.
The flight-tests were witnessed by senior scientists of DRDO, representatives of the users from the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army as well as the industry representatives.
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has complimented DRDO, the Armed Forces and the Industry for the successful flight-tests. The missile equipped with modern technologies will give further technological boost to the Armed Forces against threats, he said.
Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated the teams, stating that the successful completion of this phase-1 flight tests paves the way for induction of the system into the Armed Forces in near future.
whats the significance of quasi-ballistic missile over a cruise or hypersonic missile in current threat environment and adversary we face ?
Low probability of intercept during all phase of flight path, very high terminal speed & bigger warhead resulting in bigger kawhats the significance of quasi-ballistic missile over a cruise or hypersonic missile in current threat environment and adversary we face ?

Here is a good thread to understand it , read it allwhats the significance of quasi-ballistic missile over a cruise or hypersonic missile in current threat environment and adversary we face ?
Quasi ballistic =/= boost glide. Here is a good thread to understand it , read it all
.Boost glide or skip glide are sort of 2 faces of a coin , if the aim is to deviate from natural elliptical ballistic trajectory, it is done via programming & aerodynamic control surface engagement. Then the trajectory simply becomes user choice inflicted programmed flight using the generated aerodynamic lift to make up for the kinetic impulse loss.Quasi ballistic =/= boost glide.
Tho.
Once again, Does pralay retain the same trajectory as shaurya?
Traditional quasi-ballistic is quite limited in skips it makes, and still follows predictable paths in many phases of its flight.Boost glide or skip glide are sort of 2 faces of a coin , if the aim is to deviate from natural elliptical ballistic trajectory, it is done via programming & aerodynamic control surface engagement. It depends on the lift to drag coefficient of the vehicle, the L/D ratio. Unless the generated lift is very high, few times higher than the drag the gravity will do the job ie lesser distance covered and only once the pull up maneuver is feasible. A higher L/D value based aerodynamic config will generate much higher lift force that helps it to do the pull up maneuver several times across various atmospheric level. This config the aerodynamic design will be different to a lower L/D config.Traditional quasi-ballistic is quite limited in skips it makes, and still follows predictable paths in many phases of its flight.
Its not the same as skip glide/boost glide.
Do not know.Once again, Does pralay retain the same trajectory as shaurya?
Drdo really needs to further expand their Classifications.Per drdo anything that varies from general parabolic/elliptical trajectory is considered a quasi ballistic trajectory
Mainstream scientific literature follows well defined classification , the unnecessary hype comes from those who have little clue around the science part. Ballistic articles that survives reentry is always hypersonic. What changes with time is design parameter based on available material and mission choice. Hypersonic flight within lower atmosphere is regarded the final frontier somewhat.Drdo really needs to further expand their Classifications.
Just like they expanded the types of hypersonics missiles, first with re-entry vehicle of agni 2, then shaurya/k15, now lrashm.
