Funny Stuff

Nothing tenuous at all. Your insecurity about my family's contribution is laughable in fact.

Both blood and treasure towards Shivajis Gujarat campaigns. Borne out by family records and documented history from Mahabaleshwar and Surat.

And independently corroborated by royal lineage records out of Talegaon.

So, in effect what you're saying is that you financed Chattrapati Shivaji's campaigns and without your material and men, he wouldn't be able to achieve much.

Let's examine your statement in detail. The Marathas plundered Gujarat principally and Surat particularly because it was a Mughal province and it's principal trading posts. But the traders themselves were overwhelmingly Hindu or native Gujaratis to be precise - the Sarafs, the Jains, the Kutchis, etc. The very people who sheltered your ancestors once they took flight from Persia. Are you saying you supported Shivaji's campaign against your own brothers in Gujarat in spite of their ancestors showing yours a bowl filled to the brim with milk and you conveniently brought out the sugar and dissolved it in. This is a double whammy. I've not known a more mercantilist or mercenary ethno liguistic community than the Gujaratis and one of the rare occasions they do something out of humanity, is this how you repay them? Sounds like a pattern. I'd get to it later.

I know you love Muslims, but are you seriously comparing Parsi wealth and bounties to Muslims in the 1500s and 1600s?

Yes. I'm actually comparing the riches the Parsi community had in the 16 th & 17th century to that of the local Muslims in Konkan & western Maharashtra apart from the number of men they've contributed to the cause. Since you claim all this is well documented, I assume providing the necessary evidence shouldn't be a problem to shut me up.

There were no spoils to be had nor were they what we fought for.

So you did it to prove a point to yourself. That what happened in Nehevand was a blip in the glorious 3000 year old history of the dickraaa. Sounds fair and believable.

The British and your barbs don't really matter.

I've heard this butt hurt lament too often to even bother taking it seriously.

I'd give you a hanky if you were in front of me.

Online I can only offer my sympathies.

I'm not about to apologize for being successful. With the British.

And long after the British.

No excuses now buddy. Stop crying.

Cheers, Doc

Aah! That seems to have triggered something deep within didn't it? I was actually going to bring up cases of the cultivation of opium monopolised by the Jews & Dickraas under the Brits, like JJ Jeejebhoy and JRD Tata's father specifically amongst others whose ill gotten wealth bailed the Tata group on in dire days, but I won't.

Which brings me to an important point, the areas where opium was cultivated were Malwa, UP, Bihar and Bengal. You didn't say you had generations old inherited property there did you?

From dumping your fellow Gujjus and latching on to the Marathas and dumping them for the British. Seems like a pattern to me. I'd understand if you don't see things that way. So would everyone else here.

Let me categorically deny taking any pleasure leave alone sadistic in correcting @vsdoc 's perspectives in life. I've always seen him as a true seeker in this whole wide world of conformists or little intellects who readily buy into narratives which fit neatly into their petty and ridiculous biases only because it's comforting.

Vsdoc is a pioneering spirit. He's the kind who takes it on the chin and brushes himself up in an instant ready to undertake the journey again no matter what the perils. And for such seekers the quest doesn't end when one sees evidence to the contrary staring oneself in ones face. It merely provokes them to dig deeper and plod the lonely furrow more , oblivious to the endless ridicule .It's that undying quest and the relentless thirst for it which garners admiration for him from my end.

To end, all I can day to such a noble spirit is Salut!!

Okay, I'll keeep this in mind when the next thread derails, wherein the seeker refuses to seek any thing but own biases.

We have only one enemy.

Nothing we can do, or want to do, about you guys warring on yourselves.

We fought for our people and our land and our fire.

Which is a far sight more than others did.

No apologies. Either will be offered, nor should be expected.

Yes my ancestors raised a huge bounty of twenty lakhs in those days for Shivaji's forces. And an army of 10,000 men. Parsi men.

You want proof?

Why? Are you Soli Sorabjee? Control your delusions of grandeur pape.

Cheers, Doc

I won't touch on the other points you've raised save this.

10,000 ? And that too Parsis in the 17th century ? And men? And they raised a princely sum of 20 lakhs? Were they gold soverign coins or copper ones? And was that the value you quoted or the number?

What about those inherited properties you used to brag about dickraa? Where did you say they were? UP or Bihar?

Why are you interested in my property or inheritance?

If you are looking at cementing a matrimonial alliance, you're knocking at the wrong door.

I say that most politely.

"Behind every great fortune, lies a crime."

Honore de Balzac

Opium, 19th century onwards up unto the early twentieth century. Followed by the above list.

My family was never into opium.

And what's wrong with opium? You think Hindus and Muslims were not in on the trade as well?

If you do then you buy into doctored narrtives, designed to demonise.

Again, not to be rude, lekin shaadi ka rishta laye ho kya, ki mere parivar mein itni dilchaspi?

Cheers, Doc

Ok

😜
You just posted your family wasn't into opium cultivation. I can't think of any bawas who have vast tracts of land up North. As far as I know, there's none except you. But that's only as far as I know.
Besides, We aren't discussing Hindus & Muslims. We're discussing the craven bawas here. After all Good Thoughts, Good Words & Good Deeds aren't the catch all in Islam or Hinduism.

I see the urge to rationalize on your part as tacit admission of guilt. I wonder why. It wasn't you who was trafficking, was it? Every family has a bad history & memories. Welcome to yours!! You ought to monetise it by writing a family history or something. Who knows? It could be cathartic for you. Just a thought.

If you do then you buy into doctored narrtives, designed to demonise.

Like your attempts at demonizing the Sangh or Muslims?

No dickraa. Not a bawa. Don't share their proclivities too. Never have. Though I perfectly understand it if you wish to come out in your middle age. You wouldn't the first nor the last. I guess it's the default mode for dickraas. You've my support for whatever it's worth.

I ask you again.

Parsis being the most successful Indian community at the opium trade is bad why?

Why is it a "great crime"?

All that money went into building Bombay.

Which were little sleep macchiwala islands for millennia till then.

You could say a thank you instead. Would be nice.

Or not.

It's not bothering a single Parsi anyways.

Cheers, Doc
