Agni & Prithvi Ballistic Missiles : News & Discussions

Post re-entry phase? As in a powered RV.
I thought it was 2 staged , 3rd one having miniature liquid fuel rcs built in. I do not know if any system has solid engine built in with any re entry warheads tbh, assumed all of the unitary conical warheads are with rcs/HAM only.

All RVs have some RCS thrusters for trajectory correction. But they probably don't have a central main engine on RVs. A central thruster along with the fins and/or RCS would make our RVs capable of flying a HGV like flight path. This is also an essential tech for performing FOBS efficiently.

BR forum wrote about that, old agnis both A1 A2 biconic rv were to enter glide phase.

But I am curious if there is any solid motor stage attached that is still available to function post reentry. It would only ignite after entering the atmosphere. Is that possible? Maybe there is a mk2 of this after all, which is why past 4 years there were so much work for both A4 & A5. I guess A1p A4 and A5 are gonna be mainstays from now on across the range spectrum.

Is that possible?
Russian Topol-M & Yars ICBMs are known to have this.

See the problem with MIRVs is that each individual RV will receive a fraction of the missile's kinetic energy. The Russians use a central stage on each RV to ensure the RV's retain their tremendous terminal velocity.

This is something we were working on along with other MIRV related technologies.

This is because a missile will follow either . circular path, elliptical path, parabolic or hyperbolic, and once it reaches the space it is already in orbit. Now if the RV is cone the angle of attack will be different than if it's sphere and there could be shift from parabolic path to elliptical there fore specific orbital energy comes into play and hence you need thrusters to re arrange the sum of both PE and KE .

Because loitering too much in upper space makes it susceptible to ABMs and the missile is visible to radar.

Course correction is not the issue, every missile we made has got that, prithvis too which even today can give major challenge to any existing ABM system with a carefully planned mission.
Point is if there are indeed 3 stages all solid fuel based , then it definitely new development , the rocket definitely goes well beyond its stated range (together due to all composite stages, miniaturized warhead and the relatively high beta Rv design with slight slant angle like that of ICBM class RV design with blunt nosetip, and yet thermal load is around 3000deg indicating it faces bit less stress than dumb RV following mere parabolic path with high re entry velocity) with full payload and likely MIRV pbv, and it is possibly a new make of the older A2 prime system. Lets see if its also shown canisterised later or not. Like the Shaurya, this also may be one more "weapon of choice" for certain missions should all of the above come true. This is not another gap filler mrbm anymore.

Pics are from DRDO (these are old) , CRMCs/solid motors for testing evaluation etc. Bonus for correct guessing of which ;)

Test happened, they confirmed 15 hours later.

Strategic Forces Command (SFC) along with DRDO conducted a successful flight test of New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni-Prime from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha at around 7:00 PM yesterday. The test met all the trial objectives validating its reliable performance as confirmed from the data captured by a number of Range Sensors deployed at different locations including two Downrange ships placed at the terminal point.
The launch was witnessed by the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Strategic Forces Command, senior officials from DRDO and Indian Army. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, SFC and the Armed Forces for this successful test and stated that successful development and induction of the missile will be an excellent force multiplier for the Indian Armed Forces

A1P now likely entering into full scale production and induction into the services. Old A1-A2 batches should be freed up for conventional duty imo, ie can be used as long range conventional weapons with HE/PF/PCB warheads.

The problem is if enemy mistakes convention payload carrying Agni 1/2 as nuke-tipped one and invokes MAD then it's going to be problem for both of us.

That's why our Rocket force will take care of all long range targets "conventionally" using quasi BMs like Pralay and long range subsonic/supersonic cruise missiles like Nirbhay/BrahMos, IMO.

Quite sure this will be used to retaliate for an attack first in conventional manner. SFC will be involved in any conflict from the start btw, not waiting for govt nod or an opportunity.
