The LCH is a dedicated combat helicopter designed and developed indigenously by the Company. It has the distinction of being the first attack helicopter to land at Siachen. Four Technology Demonstrators (TDs) have been built and were extensively flight tested this year.A total of 1,498 flights have been carried out so far, of which 291 flights were completed during the year 2018-19. LCH has successfully completed all development trials including weapon (Turret Gun, Rocket System and Air to Air Missile) integration tests and is ready for operational induction awaiting orders. The quote was submitted by the Company in March, 2018 against RFP for the supply of an initial batch of 15 helicopters and order is awaited. Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) ofLCH for Army version was accorded by CEMILAC on15th February, 2019. The commercial discussions are in final stage with the customer and the contract is expected to be finalized during the financial year 2019-20.

Well well well, what do we have here?

Confirmation of what all Knowledgeable journalists and insiders have been saying. HAL has commenced production for LCH in expectation of formal contract from IA/IAF.

Means when IA/IAF formally place order HAL will deliver first units in months instead of years

PKS was going on about how the LCH had yet to receive FOC especially with respect to the weapons testing package of the LCH & that it would take a few years. Any clue what happened to that?

To be honest I stopped reading PKS’s blog some time back when it was clear that beyond the images of brochures he had snapped his analysis is next to useless and his predictions are even worse. Many of the things he said would happen in 2010 by 2014 are still nowhere to be seen.

LCH has IOC and that’s enough to commence limited series production which is what HAL has commenced work on anticipating formal orders from users soon.

Call me stupid but is HAL interested in installing CMDS , RWR , MAWS , DIRCMS etc on LCH ?

Because AFAIK installation of these requires lot of aerodynamic stimulation tests and other boatload of tests. How can they proceed on series production when a major sub system which effects aerodynamic performance is yet to installed and tested.

And as of now no evidence of the same for LCH.

I believe HAL has forgotten about it completely

Or

God forbid possibly they think LCH don't need the same

ATGMs hasn't been yet certified and that is the prime weapon for Army weapons. The bigger order from Army won't move without it being done. Airforce hasn't demanded that capability from the first bird itself.

So, how long do you think it's going to take HAL to certify the ATGM sub systems on LCH to the IA's satisfaction ?

There's the Mistral too.
Mistral is A2A missile. Not much of a use for Army looking to fly anti armour missions.

Helina with new IIR seeker and 7+ km range and it's longer range variant SANT with an active radar seeker and 15+ km range is important.

Also important is development of Indian equivalent of 70mm rockets. We cannot rely on others for these.

I was referring to the certification of the Mistrals. I'm aware they're A2A. On a different note the payload of the LCH seems to be the lowest in it's category. It's not even a ton.

It will come from SAAB, South Africa. DIRCM will come in a bit later. The CMDS is Indian.
