My native place (Varanasi very near airport) is very worse even as I am writing this post. Daily 4-6 people are expiring in my own village. There are just not enough people to give shoulder (we say Kandha dena in Gaon) today. Just days back uncle expired. People went to Gangaji for activity and halfway reaching they were told aunty died at home. Many of my neighbours gone from this world. I am not sure when I go back to village maybe in few months, how many faces I will be able to see.
Okay. So I may have understood few facts in last two days with the interaction I have had with not only family here in
Maharashtra but also relatives back in
UP (and this is generally applicable for all Indian states equally). There has been raging debate over number of infection and deaths due to COVID-19.
One side claims & tries to overblow the numbers to disproportionate figures so as to bring disrepute to current establishment (be it state or central). There is claim of infection cases going as high as close to 30-40 lakh per day when worst will hit us further in future. Other side claims numbers are not that significant and even if it is alarming, it's probably due to other factors (politically influenced like Kisan aandolan, Nizamuddin, Kumbh, election etc). And it's claimed there is most of the things under control and some higher cases being reported due to aforementioned reasons.
Both are far removed from the reality out here and doing harakiri.
Politically suicidal tendency is taking over entire political spectrum across all political parties, their influencers and their sympathizers. Yes there is difference between reported and actual infection/death count. In my observation, the count we are basing our arguments on is basically exact count data supplied by Medical institutions and there is no fact here which can establish that this data is fake or manipulated.
However what it doesn't shows is the cases which don't reach the medical institutions, hence those case figures remain off the book.
Questions can be raised if that is by design or it is result of our inefficient and weak contact tracing system.
I was and still am pretty much voter whose vote will go to BJP if the local candidate remains average or above average and BJP doesn't do religious indoctrination like our western neighbours (yes I am balanced in my outlook personal choice due to conditioning and upbringing in RSS institution, not secular, have grown in RSS system from childhood days, hate VHP, Bajrang Dal, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist etc extremist ideology institutions). However when I saw the horrors in the eyes of 11 year old girl next to be during my time fighting CORONA myself, it moved me. Girl couldn't breathe enough oxygen and she knew, her mother knew, outside her father knew, doctors knew, we all patients knew what the danger was and what we were up against. COVID 19 doesn't care if you are BJP walla, Congress walla, Aap, NCP, SP, BJD, communist or any other party, it doesn't care which state you live in, which religion you follow, which caste you were born into, it doesn't care if you're rich, poor or medium class. It doesn't care if you are a patient or medical practitioner. It struck when and where it wanted, it is hitting us now irrespective of wherever we are. And it will again come back in third wave, there is no denying the fact. Most of us have lost loved ones. Families torn apart, relatives gone, neighbours gone. It's bad but we are still here and we have to make sure that not only we follow best possible medical and scientific way to overcome this but also prepare for worst case scenario as well. It's still not too late to focus as
worst is yet to come. Thank you.
