Sums up the entire screwdrivegiri.

Since all this discussion on screwdrivergiri going on in social media . We should differentiate between following

1 . Company owns the IP over the end product and its result of their research . For example many parts of F15ex fighter jet is manufactured by other companies in india and other countries but in the end Boeing is the owner . Tonbo might be getting their some parts from foreign countries and so do govt companies . This is done to make their product competitive in international market or due to lack of manpower / ecosystem in their countries .

2. Companies which have foreign collaboration . For example some company ll collaborate on designing a particular part with other companies based on their own expertise . For example MRSAM where india was supposed to provide some parts and isreal some other .

3. A foreign company owns the IP , But assembly / manufacturing happen in india . L&T deal over k9 bajra , T90 , t72 , su30 , mig29 etc .

What we should be focused on is how to make defence industry in india a profitable industry . It must generate money , we must have a hold over defence export market . Once that happen money ll automatically flow to the system , resulting in further product development and research .

IAI get their rocket motors fabricated here, actually most likely the entire systems major sub parts are done in India via private companies I think, they assemble later.

For example, this is pretty recent, from Aug-Sept of last year I think

To further elaborate , a startup company excelling in deep tech like swarming , facial recognition etc might not be expert at plastic factory or a fiberglass factory . They ll outsource it . May be when they ll go big , they might think of vertical integration . Same stuff which costs thousands of dollars when integrated with software of swarming ( which we cnt see from outside ) etc ll cost millions of dollar .

Yeah, the IAF and IA version MRSAM's C3I and TELs are fully Indian. The dual pulse motor plus actuation are fully Indian. Even TRM are made locally. And that's not it, the IA version's radar is going to be fully Indian.

MRSAM is a great joint-venture, IMO.
First need the Manik engine to deliver. Without Manik all these projects would fail. Fingers crossed.

I wonder what stages are these studies at now? These were DRDO approved projects not very long ago, usually academic projects with grants have timeline of 18-36 months, slightly more in some cases. So fingers crossed we will have good progress. These are the studies on which DRDO develop & validate specific tech & usually awarded under the premier institutes dept head/faculties.

ps; the lists from which I took these pics of, also had a study named why one DRDO Pune lab is so successful (I think Pune, or some other lab can not remember specifically) and for that Rs 7 lakh was granted as project grant. :sneaky:

Fridays are bad news wise, nothing happening so posting old stuff like flashback, most already have seen it. its from one presentation.

We do not lack in theory/tech/academia/scholars & researchers part, but there is severe shortfall on turning that into viable defense end product due to lack of industrialisation, machinery, materials, chips , fpga, radar etc compared to highly industrialized nations. Every time I watch back old slides & listen to the scientists it becomes very clear. Project delays are not their fault, lack of suitable testing, mfg, materials, could list many other such constraints; large chunks of those are imported before they can test the theory they developed.
Hate to say it but china have addressed this problem even better than western countries.

yeah for industry presentation the slides ppt can be the older ones used :D presentation was done by Dr Joshi sir, project diretor LRSAM & currently project director of xrsam. Its available in public domain so can share no problem. Pointed out where we lack in industrial terms & you can see why delays happen in projects.

Saw DRDO wanted retired experienced personnel for a well known project consultant role. Can understand, budgetary problems, since 2020 not much recruitment done to address the shortfall. I would like the govt to consider this too before demanding continuous success result. The last date was 12 January so can post now I guess, just posting the work scope for now but it had listed the full job role too, can post if wanted.

Work on it has been going on for some time as we know, saw this in last years SIFL report for example.
