Future Combat Vehicle Programs (FRCV and FICV)

Well FWIW , the integrated battlefield situational awareness tender that was issued last year has a prebid meet on March 5 , where everything will be discussed and explained to the vendors again. So hopefully it will progress this time.

What the heck man?

If local production or co-development of a foreign system was required then my choice would have been Boxer instead of Stryker. But why go and induct a system which is not ticking the basic criteria but not choosing the local option but just testing it n number of times and finally rejecting it by inducting in very small numbers.

Seems Modi is finally filling his coffers for an extended vacation in Italy?

Neither the Kestrel nor Boxer can fit into a C 130 for rapid insertion. A fully loaded Stryker on the other hand can be air dropped in case there is a requirement.

While, I am not a big fan of the Stryker and would prefer the Kestrel any day, there is a case for rapid deployment or mechanized forces which will form the first reaction force. The heavy follows up.

Thats not a good enough argument. The weight difference between Kestrel and Striker is not that much. To deploy Kestrel use C-17 or Il-76.

Stryker is not amphibious which is a big minus for us.

Only way that Stryker makes sense is for air defence version.

See, the user ie army/IAF themselves also need a system in hand for benchmarking, to set down PSQR GSQR etc for future programs. It can not happen with mere brochure or spec based only. A proven system used extensively over a period would give the user some hands on info based on which future indigenous development can proceed.
