India Anti-Satellite (ASAT) Missile Developments

Aren't military coordination done by geostationary communication satellites rather than LEO spy satellites?? So other than destroying some space eyes, does it really add in anyway to our ability to disrupt enemy communications/coordination? Is it posible for us to develop GEO ASAT??
Yes, its very much possible. We are now working on ion thrusters. This will give the ability to us to sow warheads in space in LEO and and maneuvre them to any height and intercept even GEO satellites. The hit to kill has been demonstrated. We can also place DEW in space now as mines which will derive energy from Sun and fire lasers at anything upwards as lasers do not degrade in space and very low power lasers can have 1000s miles of range in space.

I want India to be the first country to accomplish this!! And hope we do it soon.

The latter part you mentioned, something of that sort (a reflector gun in space that directs suns energy) has been shown in a James Bond movie - Die Another Day. But I think it will be a diplomatic nightmare for us.

We should however try and fnd something more acceptable to kill GEO satellites.

It is not viable, they have so much height and solid fueled ICBM can not go to that level. Also by the time it reaches it can easily be tracked by several other such satellites and then can be killed by some other missile. Not viable.

How about using DEWs from LEO or ground like KALI??

It's ok that no ICBM can go that level but still it can't be killed by any other missile. The other missile has to chase it
Do you mean thrusters like the ones seen in satellites for position control??

Agni for Solid and Prithvi for Liquid are by far the most obvious choices for our new missile developments from existing bases. We have used these systems for 20+ years, flown them 100s of times, made 1000s of modifications on them and understand their aerodynamics like the back of our hand. We used Agni because it is an exoatmospheric solid booster. We used the Prithvi kinetic kill vehicle because we have used it dozens of times as a part of our BMD development program.
So which agni you reckon this first stage is from?

This is purely for deterrence, space wars are prohibited by treaty and the rules will be tightened soon, we may never need to use it but if China use it on our satellite disregarding international rules now they will think multiple times and probably will never take that step.

It's like an insurance policy of your own eyes in sky.

Interesting given the many possible military application's of such a system if applied on a mother carrier satellite especially ASAT applications ie to release killer nanosats/picosats equipped with ion thrusters from a mother satellite ( possibly disguised as a civilian satellite or even dual role )

Or even carry on-demand payload satellites for ELINT etc hidden inside the mother satellite to be released incase of emergencies like war etc and thus hid the secondary capabilities as the mother satellite will carry on with its primary civilian or other duties. Thus fooling observers as to the availability of additional capabilities

Also given the confusion regarding which satellite was destroyed during ASAT test
There is a 1% possibility that a such a system may have been employed. Just a guess on my part.

Good work, but why go public with it. Certainly dont like the idea of going public with an eye on vote bank. Strategic silence would have been much better, rival powers would have noticed it any way.
