Indian Defense Industry General News and Updates

Not much idea but it was for a small number anyway, towed active array sonar seems to be indi development ongoing by one of the naval labs.

What about that when Cochin Shipyard said in last Q that for ASW crafts, MoD and Govt have decided to make the two main sensors via indigenous route? Those are probably related to the sonars?

Doesn't matter. Current 20+ principle surface combatants are without this sonars. Including so called ASW corvette i think.

Kanpur's Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited has received an order to manufacture defence products worth Rs 6000 crore. These include an order for 300 'Sarang' cannons from the Indian Army and orders worth Rs 450 crore received from European countries.

The CMD said that the firepower of Dhanush cannon made in Kanpur has now been expanded. "Earlier, it was made of 155mm/45 calibre. Now, we have developed a prototype of 155mm/52 calibre. All its tests are done, and it will soon be brought out," he said.

A two-day exhibition on defence products was also organized by the Ordnance Factory at Armapur Grounds. Small Arms Factory general manager Rajiv Sharm and exhibition coordinator Arun Kastwar and others were present on this occasion.

Does anyone know if BEL ever licence produce Atlas Elektronik towed array sonar part of the original contract? I cannot find any sources. I dont think we even saw it added on more than 6 ships.

It was suppose to be 6 + 10

Apart from the contract being signed for 6 Units in 2015 with deliveries being in 2016 - There is no further news on the same.

Heck even the information on the Indian Navy youtube for the lauch of Vindhyagiri doesn't mention the use of ANY towed array sonar :(

A Reader on Trishul blog asked PKS

How many Atlas Electronic ACTAS sonars has India so far ordered?
Ans: More than 24

---

Anyone can verify this?

Cant say. SIPRI says 6 + probable 10

IMO, biggest weakness of this navy is lack of enough towed array sonars and minesweepers.

Imagine an actual shooting match. Enemy can simply block harbours. I can picture India begging west for help. :censored:
